WHEREVER YOU GO, GOD WILL BE WITH YOU

Date: January 30

Category: Trust in God

Genesis 28:15
"And behold, I'm with you and will keep (watch over you with care, take notice of you) wherever you may go, and I will bring you back to this land for I will not leave you until I have done all of which I have told you."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThis is God speaking to Jacob. Jacob was one of the patriarchs of the Old Testament. The first one was Abraham, then Isaac, and then Jacob. Jacob was the one who had 12 sons, which became the 12 tribes of Israel. In this chapter, Isaac blessed Jacob and then told him to go to the land of his wife, Rebecca's brother. He told Jacob to go and find a wife for himself from their tribe. He told him not to go to the heathen nations, but to go to their own people and find a wife there.

After this, Jacob had a dream. In his dream, he saw a staircase that went up to heaven. The truth that God communicated to him through this dream is what each of us would like to hear. In this verse, we read what God said to Jacob, "Behold, I'm with you…" This word from God applies to us today as well. When God is with you, you have nothing to fear. Not only will God be with you, but He'll "keep (watch over you with care, take notice of you) wherever you may go." So the choice of where you go depends on the decisions you will make. God will not make you go anywhere you don't want to. You have to make a choice, a conscious decision to go in a certain direction.

When you put your best effort into your studies, your career, your relationship, or any other aspect of your life, you will get more out of those things. If you don't have any ambitions of doing greater things, then you will never be satisfied with your studies, your career, your relationship, or even with yourself.

You should not compete against others. You should compete against yourself. You should attempt to become better today than you were yesterday. Tomorrow you should attempt to be better than you are today. So the choices that you make will direct where your life goes. So when we make the decisions to go where we choose to go, God promises in this verse that He will be with us.

Verse 15b says, "I will bring you back to this land for I will not leave you until I have done all of which I have told you." God will not leave you as you go. But it is your responsibility to go. God will not choose a college for you. God will not choose a career for you. God will not make you work. God will not choose a spouse for you. All of that is your decision. But God promises here that wherever you do go, He will be with you and He will bless the work that you do. Of course, God will direct as you make your decisions. If you read His Word and seek Him, He will guide you as you make your decisions. But ultimately, you are the one who decides what path to take.

God makes His decisions based on your decisions. If you choose to follow Him, He will bless you. If you choose to turn away from Him, you will be cursed. But in this verse, God promises us that he will be with us. Wherever we may go, God will be with us and care for us. He will not leave us until He has done all of which He has told us.
