2 Chronicles 26:5
"He set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the things of God; and as long as he sought (inquired of, yearned for) the Lord, God made him prosper."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThis chapter in 2 Chronicles is about King Uzziah, who did everything his father taught him. According to verse 1, he became king when he was about sixteen years old after his father died. The priest, Zechariah, instructed Uzziah in the things of God. That's how you seek God. You find instruction. It says here in verse 5b, "as long as he sought (inquired of, yearned for) the Lord, God made him prosper." Then in verse 7, we read what prosperity means. It means that God helped him against his enemies. In verse 8, we see that prosperity is that Uzziah was gaining strength. In this case, strength meant receiving good gifts, having good material things, and possessing many livestock.

So when you prosper, you work on strengthening yourself. You work on increasing your stocks and material things. That's what helps you become strong, and God is the One who helps you. Sometimes people want to prosper, but they want to do it without God. They don't understand that that can't happen. Seeking the Lord will lead you to prosperity. When you prosper, it means that you are becoming strong. It means that God is helping you.

Now in regards to your prosperity, you have to ask yourself, ‘Am I making good progress? Are my stocks increasing? Are my investments increasing?' If your investments are not increasing, then you are not becoming strong. If you're a student, you have to ask yourself, "Are my marks becoming better? Am I improving in my studies?" If your marks aren't becoming better, you aren't becoming strong. When you notice that you aren't becoming strong, then you have to start seeking the Lord.

For example, when I need money in the ministry, I begin praying and reading the Scriptures more than I usually would. The Bible says that when we seek the Kingdom of God first along with all its righteousness, then everything else will be added onto us [Matthew 6:33]. That is the formula for success and prosperity. But to seek the Lord, you need to get instruction from the Word of God. That would mean going to church regularly and reading the Bible and praying daily.

But it says in verse 16 that "when [King Uzziah] was strong, he became proud to his destruction; and he trespassed against the Lord his God…" That is something you have to be very careful about. When you gain strength, make sure you don't become prideful about it. Give all the glory to God. Give God what belongs to Him anyway. Give Him your tithes and your offerings and acknowledge Him in all of your successes. That's how you will keep your heart humble. Pride always comes before fall.

So if you want to prosper, then make yourself strong by seeking the Lord. When you seek the Lord, He will give you wisdom in how to improve your investments and become prosperous. But be sure to acknowledge that all of your prosperity comes from God. Give Him the glory that He deserves. When you acknowledge that God is the One who enables you to prosper, you'll keep pride out of your heart and your heart will stay humble.
