Luke 10:7
"And stay on in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not keep moving from house to house."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThis is found in the chapter where Jesus Christ sent His disciples out to go preach the Gospel and heal the sick in the towns where He intended to go (verse 1). Then in verse 2b it says, "Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." So Jesus told the disciples to pray for laborers, meaning people who would send out the saving and healing message of Jesus Christ to others. Then in verse 3, He says to them, "Go your way; behold, I send you out like lambs into the midst of wolves." So Jesus sent them all out to go their way and preach the Gospel. Then in verse 9 we read, "And heal the sick in it and say to them, The kingdom of God has come close to you." In other words, the disciples were to proclaim the Gospel into the hearts of other people and heal the sick.

In our devotional verse today (verse 7), Jesus says, "And stay on in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not keep moving from house to house." So when the disciples entered a house, they were to stay in the same house, rather than moving from one house to another. They were also to eat and drink what the people provided for them "for the laborer is worthy of his wages."

So Jesus says here that when you go and preach the Gospel, you should do it in obedience to His commandments. He says that the people you serve and minister the Word of God to should partner with you through prayers and financial support. They should provide you with funds that will help you live, provide for your family, but also to provide for you to do your work and minister the Gospel. Jesus says here, "The laborer is worthy of his wages."

For example, when I travel to the Balkans to preach the Gospel, I need assistance from other Christians to enable me to go. Let's say you work in ministry but you don't get paid, how will you be able to support yourself and your family and how will you be able to do your ministry? If the ministry that you work for isn't paying you for your work, then you'll have to earn your income somewhere else in a secular job. If you do that, then you will not be able to commit all of your time and energy in the ministry.

Actually in Galatians 6:6 it says, "Let him who receives instruction in the Word [of God] share all good things with his teacher [contributing to his support]." That's what Paul said to the Galatians. When people commit themselves to Christian work, benefiting the people of God, then the people of God are to support the one who preaches and teaches the Word of God to them. If the people of God who preach to you are feeding you then you have an obligation to support the work of God that those people are doing.

It's so important to sow seeds back into the ministry that you are benefiting from because then you are enabling them to benefit other people as well. When you partner with us, you are enabling Shining Light Ministries ( to reach other people who we could not reach without your prayers and support. In that way, you will have a part in what is happening in our ministry. For example, when people get saved through our ministry, when people get fed or clothed by our ministry, you have a part in that because you have sown your seeds of support.

In Proverbs 19:17 it says, "He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and that which he has given He will repay to him." So God is teaching us here that giving to the poor is like lending to the Lord. When you and I give for the needy, then God will repay us for our gift. When we sow our seeds, then those seeds will eventually bring back fruit for us.

In Luke 6:38 we read, "Give, and [gifts] will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will they pour into [the pouch formed by] the bosom [of your robe and used as a bag]. For with the measure you deal out [with the measure you use when you confer benefits on others], it will be measured back to you." Giving is so important both for the ministry that you give to but also for yourself because your increase is based on your giving. Also, the ministry that you support will have enough to continue reaching souls for the Lord. So remember to support those who work for the Kingdom of God because as Jesus says, "The laborer is worthy of his wages."
