Genesis 6:21-22
"Also take with you every sort of food that is eaten, and you shall collect and store it up; and it shall serve as food for you and for them. Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThis is a commandment of God to Noah. God has just asked Noah to build an ark and collect two of every kind of animal together. According to this commandment, Noah was told to take with him every kind of food to be eaten and store everything. So he was to take, collect, and store. In other words, he was supposed to make a place wherefore when the flood arrived, he would have enough to eat.

You can see in Genesis 7:10 that after seven days, the flood came. In Gen. 7:12, we see that it rained upon the earth for forty days and forty nights. Then in Gen 7:24, we see that 150 days have gone by. In Gen. 8:6, another forty days went by and after that, another 150 days went by. Then in Gen. 8:10, there were seven days and then another seven days before they were really able to come out. Now that's over 250 days, which works out to be about eight and a half months. So, Noah had to take, collect, and store eight and a half months worth of food so they could survive during the flood.

As I was reading this verse, God said to me, "You have to have eight and a half months worth of sufficient supply for you and your family." Let's say, for example, you can't work for eight and a half months. That's how much you should have stored up. The most ideal principle is found in the example of Joseph. He collected for seven years. So the most ideal is to have enough money to live on for seven years. But according to this verse, the minimum should be eight and a half months. You have to calculate and see how much money you would need to live for eight and a half months. Then imagine as though you don't have an income for those eight and a half months. When you go to financial advisers, they often say that the minimum you should save is three to six months worth of income. Of course three to six months is better than nothing. A lot of people have nothing and just live from pay cheque to pay cheque. That's not good. This Bible text says that we should store up for at least eight and a half months – not three to six, but eight and a half months. So, I'd rather do what the Bible says.

Now, how can you have eight and a half months worth of supplies? You can have it by saving and not spending what you earn. When you work diligently and have earned your money, you must have a principle of saving. The first 10% belongs to the Lord. Then a minimum of 20% (preferably 30-40%) should go into savings, and the rest is used to live on. Let's say you make $1,000 every month. That means that the first $100 goes to the Lord; $200 gets saved; and $700 is for living expenses. If you spend from the 10% that belongs to God, you are robbing God and God cannot bless you. If you spend from the 20% that is supposed to be used to build your future, then you're robbing from yourself.

So God is saying here to Noah, "Collect enough." God told Noah to do this before the flood came. So collecting and storing should be done before the need arises. You don't wait for a need to arise to start storing. By then, it's too late. You start collecting and storing when you have the money. The more money you put aside, the more money you will have when you are in need. According to this Biblical Scripture, we are to store up enough for eight and a half months. If you have no income for eight and a half months, you should still have enough money to cover whatever expenses you have. Each and every family should have this. Each and every individual should have this. If you don't have this, you are taking a big risk. What does it say about Noah? It says that Noah did everything God commanded him to do. So, Noah was obedient to God, and God wants you and I to be obedient to Him as well.
