FEAR GOD AND YOU’LL NEVER LACK

Date: June 13

Category: Prosperity

Psalm 34:10b-11b
"But they who seek (inquire of and require) the Lord [by right of their need and on the authority of His Word], none of them shall lack any beneficial thing. Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you to revere and worshipfully fear the Lord."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThis is a wonderful promise of God. The word "seeking" in Hebrew is "darash," which means seeking to exertion. It's like when you go and dig for gold. You search the mines first; then you dig the ground and from all that work, you begin to sweat. You work so hard that you exert energy and you keep working until you find that gold. That is exactly how we should seek the Lord. We should put forth our best effort to seek the Lord – to read, meditate upon, and do what the Word of God tells us we should do.

It says here in verse 10b that we should seek the Lord by right of our need and on the authority of His Word. That's an interesting statement. It means that we are to seek the Lord based upon the promises found in His Word – based on the authority of His Word.

When you, as parents, promise your children something, your children will expect you to deliver on that promise. But let's say you forget that you made them that promise. Your children will certainly remind you! They'll say, "Daddy, you promised!" When they remind you of your promise, then you will remember and feel obliged to deliver that promise to them.

Just imagine that if you, as earthly parents, feel obliged to keep what you have promised to your children, how much more would your Heavenly Father be obliged by His Word to keep His promises to you? God will fulfill His promises because He is a God who cannot lie. It's not that He will not lie, but He cannot lie, meaning it's against His nature to lie. So His Word is true.

So when we seek the Lord based on His promises, we are actually reminding God that He made those promises to us in His Word. It's not that God forgets, but God wants us to speak His Word in our prayers. And because His Word is true, our prayers will be answered because God will keep His promises.

This verse then says that for those who seek the Lord in this way, then "none of them shall lack any beneficial thing." So you will not lack anything that is of benefit to you. In other words, when you start seeking God based on His Word and based on your needs, God says that you will lack nothing. You will have more than enough.

So our focus has to be in what verse 11 says. "Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you to revere and worshipfully fear the Lord." That's what we need to do if we want to live a life without any lack.

In any life situation, we have to consider how we are to revere and worshipfully fear the Lord, how we should honor the Lord in our lives. When you are faced with a crowd that wants to curse God, how will you honor and worshipfully fear God? You separate yourself from that crowd. You separate yourself from anyone and anything that is not pleasing to the Lord. That's how you will worshipfully fear and honor God. So no matter what you experience in life, you have to make sure you reverently fear the Lord. You show that fear by acting in obedience to His Word always – not just sometimes, but always.

God wants us to be successful in life, to have prosperity, to be healthy, and blessed. But whether or not we receive those things depends on how we treat the Lord. If we treat God with honor and respect, then God will make sure we are blessed. When we ask and seek the Lord based on our needs and based on the promises of God, there is nothing that you and I will lack.

But let's say you decide not to reverently fear the Lord. Let's say you decide to get involved in things you shouldn't be involved in, doing things that are contrary to the Word of God. Then eventually those sinful actions will lead you to destruction. Eventually you will pay the price for it and your life will be destroyed. You may not think it's a big deal at first. But one act of sin can lead to a lifetime of downfalls. That's why it's so much better to follow God and love and respect Him.

The verse that is before the passage we read today is verse 10a, which says, "The young lions lack food and suffer hunger…" But then it says that those who seek the Lord will lack nothing. But remember: we are to seek the Lord based on His Word and then we are to live a life that is in reverence and honorable to Him. When you do, God will teach you how to manage your life so that you will be successful and never have to lack anything. That's what God wants for you today!
