Philippians 4:7
"And God's peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThis is a wonderful promise from God. God promises that His peace, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. People are often troubled in their minds and lack peace in their hearts, but it is likely because they don't have God. So we need God. It says here that God's peace will protect our hearts and minds. Despite all the troubles that you may encounter or the difficulties that may arise, God's peace will be there for you.

However, there are some preconditions that we have to fulfill before we can receive that peace. Verse 4 says, "Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, gladden yourselves in Him]; again I say, Rejoice!" So if you want God's peace, you've got to rejoice in the things of God. You don't just rejoice because you have a nice house, a nice car, or a wonderful spouse. You rejoice because God was the One who gave you those things.

Then it says in verse 5, "Let all men know and perceive and recognize your unselfishness (your considerateness, your forbearing spirit). The Lord is near [He is coming soon]." So not only are you to rejoice in God, but you are to be good towards others as well. If you don't have a good relationship with the people around you, then you can't have peace in your heart.

Then verse 6 says, "Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God." So if you have a need, don't become anxious because of it. Go to God in prayer and present your need before Him. Ask Him for His help, and then thank Him for answering your prayers.

So those are the three things that you and I have to do before we can receive God's peace. First, we are to rejoice in God and His Word. Secondly, we are to be in good relationship with people, and lastly, we are to present our needs to God in prayer. Then the peace of God will come, and that peace will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Your peace will be kept in Christ. The Bible doesn't say that God will give you peace in your money or in your material things. The Bible says that your peace will be kept in Christ. Isaiah 26:3 says, "You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You…" That's where our peace comes from; it comes from keeping our minds on Jesus. When you and I think of Jesus, then God will keep us in perfect peace.

It's a great blessing to have the peace of God. Many people don't have peace in their minds and hearts, and they often wonder why. Whenever you feel a lack of peace in your life, ask yourself if you're rejoicing in God. Ask yourself if you are in good relationship with other people. Ask yourself if you're presenting your needs to God. Ask yourself if your mind is focused on Jesus. If you are doing all of these things, then according to Philippians 4:7, the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep and guard your mind and heart in Christ Jesus. That's such a wonderful promise from the Lord. The peace of God is ours for the taking. We take it by doing what we need to do in order to receive it. When we do all that God requires of us, He will bestow His divine blessing upon our lives, and that is the peace that passes all understanding.
