SEEK THE WORD, DO THE WORD, SPEAK THE WORD

Date: March 8

Category: Follow God

Ezra 7:10
"For Ezra had prepared and set his heart to seek the Law of the Lord [to inquire for it and of it, to require and yearn for it], and to do and teach in Israel its statutes and its ordinances."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThe previous verse says, "On the first of the first month he started out from Babylon, and on the first of the fifth month he arrived in Jerusalem, for upon him was the good hand of God." So as Ezra was traveling back to Jerusalem, the hand of God was upon him, meaning God was enveloping him with His goodness and protection. He arrived there safely; nothing harmed him because God's hand of protection was upon him.

Then as we read verse 10, we learn there were three things that Ezra did for God's hand to be upon him. First, he sought the Law of the Lord. Verse 10a says, "For Ezra had prepared and set his heart to seek the Law of the Lord [to inquire for it and of it, to require and yearn for it]…" So his relationship to God's Law was very close. It wasn't just a religious practice to him. He put his heart into seeking God and His Law.

Secondly, Ezra did what the Law of God instructed. He walked in obedience to the Law and did the commandments of the Lord. So he set his heart not only on seeking and searching God's Word, but also on practicing the Word of God. That's why God blessed him. That's why God protected him. That's why he was successful. Success comes from obedience to the Word of God.

Thirdly, Ezra spoke the Word of God to the rest of Israel. So not only did he read and think about the Word of God, not only did he do what the Word of God said, but he also taught the Word of God to others.

The Word of God is the standard for measuring what's right and wrong. It is the guide to which our lives should be governed. That's why it is so important to study and know God's Word so that we can obey it and teach it to others. So those are the three things that Ezra did in order for God's good hand to be upon him. So if we want the hand of God upon our lives, we should follow Ezra's example. We are to seek the Word, do the Word, and speak the Word. That's what God wants us to do. If you want to be successful in life and if you want the good hand of God to be upon you, those are the three things that you have to do in order to receive God's blessing.
