Joshua 22:8
"And he said to them, Return with much riches to your tents and with very much livestock, with silver, gold, bronze, iron, and very much clothing. Divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiIn this passage, Joshua talks to the two and a half tribes who came with the other nine and a half tribes across the Jordan River to fight until the Israelites possessed their land. Once the land was conquered, Joshua speaks to them before they leave. In verse 8, we read about the riches that were collected from their battle.

Aside from their tents being a part of that riches, their livestock, their silver, gold, bronze, iron, and clothing were all a part of those riches. So Joshua instructs them at the end of verse 8, "Divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren." All the things, the riches they collected from their enemies after their battle is to be divided up with their brethren.

As I was reading this passage, this verse became like a "rhema" word to me – a revelation. A "rhema" word is what the Spirit of God speaks to us personally when we read His Word. It's a word that becomes real to us because it applies to our own lives. This verse teaches me what riches are – and how we can increase those riches.

First, I learned that your tent, meaning your house is a part of those riches. I also noticed that the word used in this verse is plural, "tents." So having riches means having more than one house. That means investing in properties.

These people waged war for almost twenty years, and these riches are what they were able to accumulate from that battle. The number of years they fought is very significant here. From the time that you start working, you need about twenty year's worth of working, saving, and investing to be financially independent. When I say financially independent, I mean having enough money flowing from your investments so that you don't have to work another day in your life. If you do work, it would be because you choose to work not because you have to work to live.

So if you have not been able to become financially independent after twenty years of working, then you have not handled your money properly. One of the ways of becoming financially independent is by investing into properties. Remember: that's plural. You purchase properties and you start making a profit from them right away.

We could also invest into our livestock, this verse says. That's another part of our riches. That could mean investing in the food industries. Another way to invest is by investing into commodities, like silver, gold, bronze and iron. God wants you to research these commodities and invest into those who dig for them. That way you will be blessed when they find them.

Another thing that is a part of our riches is clothing. So we can invest in the clothing industry. Find a clothing company that is making profit and invest into that company by buying shares. When the company increases, you will increase as well.

There are all kinds of things we can invest in. It's our job to seek God for direction about where He wants us to invest. Through this verse, God told me to obtain riches by investing. Even though, I haven't invested into all of these things myself (except for real estate), I'm seeking God's face about what He wants me to do next. We should all do the same if we want riches.

Having riches means having enough to survive without having to work. It means making your money work for you. All the money in your investments becomes tools that work for you. One of the richest men in the world, Bill Gates has billions of dollars. He could never work enough hours to earn that much money by himself. He makes his money work for him.

The key to gaining riches is to invest your money, not to spend it. You should invest at least 20% plus. If you do that each and every month, in 20 years you will have enough money to live without having to work another day in your life. Your investments in real estate, the food industry, the commodities industry, and the clothing industry will bring in money for you to live. That's what it means to have riches.
