STRETCH OUT BY FAITH

Date: December 24

Category: Divine Healing

Mark 5:34
"And He said to her, Daughter, your faith (your trust and confidence in Me, springing from faith in God) has restored you to health. Go in (into) peace and be continually healed and freed from your [distressing bodily] disease."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThis is Jesus speaking to a woman who had just been healed. According to verse 25, this woman had a flow of blood for twelve years. She was also a woman who suffered greatly at the hands of physicians who tried to help her (verse 26). Then in verse 27 we read that she heard a report about Jesus. So someone must have told her that Jesus was the Healer. Then those words must have gone from her ears to her heart. She must have embraced and accepted those words because they began to come from her heart out through her mouth. In verse 28 we read, "For she kept saying, If I only touch His garments, I shall be restored to health." She was speaking faith based on the word that she heard.

Notice "she kept on saying," meaning she didn't just say it once but she persistently said that if she only touched the hem of Jesus' garment, then she would be healed. It's interesting to notice what the hem of Jesus' garment represented. At the time, Jesus was wearing a prayer shawl and at the bottom of the shawl were tassels. In the Hebrew culture, those tassels represented the commandments of God. So really this woman was saying that if she just touched the tassels of Jesus' prayer shawl, meaning if she just grabbed on to the Word of God, then she would be healed.

In verse 29 we read, "And immediately her flow of blood was dried up at the source, and [suddenly] she felt in her body that she was healed of her [distressing ailment]." We know that Jesus is the Healer, but we also know that God could not have healed this woman if she didn't believe in her heart, confess with her mouth, and stretch out her hand to touch the garment of Jesus. If she didn't do what she needed to do in order to be healed, she would not have been healed.

It's the same with anything that we want to receive from God. God will not provide healing for us if we don't stretch out for it. God will not provide a house for us if we don't work in order to buy it. God will not provide a successful marriage for us if we don't do what it takes to build one. There is always something you and I have to do if we want to receive something from God. So because this woman stretched out by faith, she was instantly healed.

Then in verse 34a we read, "And He said to her, Daughter, your faith (your trust and confidence in Me, springing from faith in God) has restored you to health." This incident took place as Jesus was going to heal a 12-year-old boy. As He was walking, there were many people who were touching Jesus, but none of them were healed except for this woman. This is because she touched Him by faith. She grabbed on to the tassels (the Word of God), by faith and she was completely healed that very moment. Then in verse 34b we read, "Go in (into) peace and be continually healed and freed from your [distressing bodily] disease."

Faith's greatest opposition is fear. In order to receive from God, we have to believe that we will receive it. Believing is a choice that we have to make. Maybe I can ask you, what are you going to place higher weight upon? Your word, the word of other people or God's Word? When we place higher weight upon the Word of God, then our faith and reliance upon God will bring us what we believe for. In James 1:6-7 we read, "Only it must be in faith that he asks with no wavering (no hesitating, no doubting). For the one who wavers (hesitates, doubts) is like the billowing surge out at sea that is blown hither and thither and tossed by the wind. For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything [he asks for] from the Lord." Faith is the key to obtaining anything from God. So today, let us be people of great faith.
