1 Peter 2:24c
"By His wounds you have been healed."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThis is a powerful statement of truth regarding our healing by the wounds of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour. We all want to be healthy. I believe this statement with my whole heart, but I also believe that there is something we need to do in order to STAY healthy or should I say walk in divine health.

The health industry today has concluded that for a person to be healthy, he/she has to eat healthy foods in proper proportions. But what the medical community is learning today, the Bible has taught us from the beginning. A dietician will tell you that it's not healthy to eat processed foods, fried foods, or even red meat. When food has been processed or fried, the nourishments are no longer useful to our bodies. So we become hungry again quickly and we eat more. As a result, we gain weight, and that's how we become unhealthy and sick.

That's why dieticians will tell you to eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. But in the Bible, God has instructed us to do so anyway. In Genesis 2:16 we read, "And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree in the garden." So with the exception of the tree of knowledge, Adam was able to eat of every tree in the garden. Also in Ezekiel 47:12d we read, "And their fruit shall be for food and their leaves for healing." So fruits and vegetables are important for a healthy diet. Fruits should be eaten in the morning because they act as cleansers of the toxins within our bodies, and vegetables should be eaten afterwards because they act as builders of our bodies.

It's also important to eat grains and seeds in their raw state because that's when they have the most nutrients. For example, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, and almonds should all be eaten in their raw state. Also all kinds of leaves can be used in teas, which are healthy for us to drink. Drinking herbal teas is healthy and aids in digestion. Also drinking some of the diuretic teas prior to sleeping helps us out with regularity for cleansing purposes.

Along with that, it's important to drink at least 8-10 cups of clean water every day. An average adult body is 50-65% water. A man's body is 60-65% water, compared to 50-60% for a woman due to smaller muscles. Water content differs throughout the human body. Blood is made up of 83% water, bones are 22% water, and muscle is 75% water. At birth human body is about 75% water. People, who live past their 95th birthday and die of old age, are about 25% water. While we can survive without food for many days, we can survive only 72 hours without water. One of the most important anti-aging strategies and one of the best medicines is to drink plenty of fresh water daily. Don't wait to be thirsty to do so!

In addition to eating and drinking healthy, there are other things we need to do as well in order to walk in divine health or to be and stay healthy.

We need to sleep at least 8 hours a day in order to rest our bodies. Make sure the mattress you sleep on is well fitting for your back. We need to sleep in a well darkened room and away from noise (use ear plugs and eye cover if you need). When we do that, we gain new strength for the following day.

Also, we need to do what we can to avoid as much stress as possible. Identify the stress points in your life. Stress is caused by our inner response to the influence from either external or internal stressors. At the moment of stress there is an outpouring of adrenaline, a stimulant hormone, into the blood stream.

Some external stressors are:

1. Environmental: noise, bright lights, heat, crowded spaces. 2. Social: rudeness, bossiness or aggressiveness of others. 3. Structural: rules, regulations, deadlines etc. 4. Significant life events: death of a loved one, loss of a job, promotion, new baby. 5. Incidental: slow traffic, lost keys, car break up, etc.

Some internal stressors are:

1. Lifestyle choices: caffeine, lack of sleep, too much work, debt and mortgage. 2. Negative attitude: pessimistic, criticizing. 3. Mental: unrealistic expectations, taking things too personally, now-or-never thinking, exaggerating. 4 Personality type: tends towards perfectionism, works too much, wants to please everybody, inflexible, etc.

Prepare ahead of time for these stressors as best as you can. Prepare so you will diminish the effects or eliminate some of the stress points altogether. Make sure you add fun to your day. Enjoy your self with your wife or with your children. Read a funny book, tell and listen to wholesome jokes. Watch some funny home videos so you can have good belly laugh for at least 10 minutes a day.

Another thing we should do to walk in divine health is exercise about 3-4 times a week for 20-30 minutes; this is an excellent stress reliever. This can include a brisk walk, running on the treadmill, riding a bike, or playing a sport. Exercising is a good way to relieve stress, lose weight, and feel healthy. Through exercise we speed our metabolism to burn calories and toxins.

Also, we need to detoxify our bodies from all the poisons that accumulate within us through the air, water and food. A good way to detoxify your body is to fast. It's good practice to fast one weekend per month, and one entire week in the spring and one entire week in the fall. Fasting rejuvenates your body and cleanses your system.

The way I fast is by replacing meals with freshly made carrot juices. Instead of breakfast I drink two glasses of carrot juice only, instead of lunch I drink two glassess of carrot juices mixed with spinach juice, and instead of supper I drink two glasses of carrot juice mixed with cucumber and beets juice. As soon as I wake up and just prior to going to bed, I also drink one full freshly squeezed lemon juice without any additives. This way both my wife and I have fasted for as many as 57 days in a row without feeling hungry from day one. And don't forget to reduce or completely eliminate caffeine, pop, and alcohol from your diet if you consume any of it (hopefully none at all).

One very important aspect of detoxifying is the cleansing of our spirits. In Ephesians 4:31-32 we read: "Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity) and quarreling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil-speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite, ill will, or baseness of any kind). And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you."

Over 80% of diseases are caused by bitterness and grudges. Forgiveness is the antidote so if you have anything against anyone, forgive them right now. Jesus said in Matthew 6:14-15 "For if you forgive people their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses."

Finally, in order to walk in divine health, we should also take supplements, particularly anti-oxidants (like: vitamins C, E, Q10, selenium, etc.) because they eliminate the free radicals in our bodies, which create all kinds of sicknesses. So along with eating all the proper foods that God tells us in His Word, we also have to follow these steps in order to be healthy.

It's true that we have been healed by His wounds as 2 Peter 2:24c indicates. We read also in Isaiah 53:5c that "with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole". We are healed praise God! But once we receive our healing, we now have to take specific measures to stay healed and walk in divine health, and that requires a change of lifestyle on our part.
