NONE OF THE DISEASES

Date: November 12

Category: Divine Healing

Exodus 15:26
"If you will diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord your God and will do what is right in His sight, and will listen to and obey His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon you which I brought upon the Egyptians, for I am the Lord Who heals you."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiIt was never the intention of our loving God for people to be sick. In Deuteronomy 28:1-14, we can read about all the blessings that God will bestow upon those who will obey Him. Then in Deuteronomy 28:15-58 we can read about all the curses that will come upon those who disobey Him. It's interesting to notice that sickness is not a blessing from God. All sickness and diseases are found in the curses. So sickness is not from God. Actually, it's because of sin and sickness that Jesus came to die on the cross of Calvary.

In Isaiah 53:5 we read, "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole." In other words, Jesus Christ died on the cross so that our sins would be forgiven and our sicknesses would be removed. Also, when you read about Jesus' ministry on the earth, you'll notice that He always ministered to the sick. Whenever sick people came to Jesus, they always left healed. Even when He sent out the apostles, He told them to preach the Gospel and heal the sick (Matthew 10:8, Luke 9:2). So it was never God's intention for people to become sick. It's always God's intention for people to be healed.

In Exodus 15:26, God promises us that no disease is going to come upon us. But this is a conditional promise, meaning God will fulfill it as long as we fulfill the condition He requires. But what are some of these conditions? Well the first part of verse 26 says, "If you will diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord your God." So we are to diligently hear God's voice, meaning when we listen to the Word being preached or when we read the Word in our own devotionals, we are to do so attentively. But what's the purpose for that? Well verse 26 then says, "and will do what is right in His sight." So we listen diligently to the voice of God in order to do what is pleasing in His sight.

Then verse 26 goes on to describe what is pleasing in God's sight. It says, "and will listen to and obey His commandments and keep all His statutes." Those are the things that God finds pleasing. When we listen to, obey and keep His commandments, we become pleasing to God. But it's impossible to obey God's commandments if we first don't hearken to His voice. That's why we have to keep our ears attuned to His voice and learn what is pleasing in His sight. Then we are to take that Word and apply it into our lives through obedience to His commandments.

When we do that, then we will receive the promise, which we read in the last part of verse 26 where God says, "I will put none of the diseases upon you which I brought upon the Egyptians, for I am the Lord Who heals you." So none of the diseases that the Egyptians experienced are going to come upon us because we have hearkened to God's voice and have obeyed His commandments. But it's important to remember that this promise can only be kept once we have kept the conditions that God requires.

God says here that He is the Lord who heals us. So if God heals our sicknesses, then that means those sicknesses could not have come from Him. Sicknesses have spiritual causes that are from Satan. When we walk in disobedience to God's commandments, we are connecting ourselves to Satan and allowing ourselves to be open for sicknesses to attack our bodies. But when we walk in obedience to God's commandments, then we are connecting ourselves to God – the Lord who heals us. So today, let's take this command from God to heart and let's hearken diligently to His voice and let's do all that is pleasing in His sight.
