1 Peter 2:24
"He personally bore our sins in His [own] body on the tree [as on an altar and offered Himself on it], that we might die (cease to exist) to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiBy His stripes, you have been healed! When Jesus was crucified on the cross of Calvary, He personally bore our sins; meaning He Himself was an altar offering. He did this so that we would be free from sin, which is anything that causes us to miss the mark that God has given us. Not only that, but Jesus died so that we would live to righteousness, which is right standing before God and people. Because He bore our sins, the moment we accept Jesus Christ into our hearts as Lord and Savior, He forgives us of our sins, He cleanses us from all unrighteousness and He remembers our sins no more. But there is something else that He did for us when He died on that cross.

It says here, "By His wounds you have been healed." This statement is written in past tense, meaning your healing has already taken place. Sin and sickness have the same cause; they both come from Satan. In the same way God doesn't want people to live in sin, He doesn't want people to live in sickness. God has taken care of both of these things at the cross of Calvary. In Isaiah 53:5 we read, "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole." In other words, when Jesus offered Himself to die on the cross, not only did He provide us with salvation, He has provided us with healing.

In Deuteronomy 28:1-14, we read about the blessings of God that we receive when we walk in obedience to the Lord. For example in Deuteronomy 28:2 we read, "And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you if you heed the voice of the Lord your God." Then the chapter goes on to list what the blessings are. As you read through all the different blessings, you will find that sickness is not one of them.

But as you read verses 15-68, you'll read the list of curses that will come upon you if you disobey the Lord. For example, in verses 59-60 we read that grievous sicknesses and all diseases will come upon us if we don't obey God's voice. Then in verse 61 we read, "Also every sickness and every affliction which is not written in this Book of the Law the Lord will bring upon you until you are destroyed." So it's clear to see that sickness is not a blessing; it's a curse.

But let's go back and read Isaiah 53:4, "Surly He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy]." So if Jesus Christ bore our griefs, sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses and if He carried our sorrows and pains of punishment, then we don't need to carry those things anymore. Sickness does not belong to us. Jesus bore our sicknesses when He bore our sins upon Himself. So you and I do not need to be sick.

Actually Psalm 107:20 says, "He sends forth His word and heals them and rescues them from the pit and destruction." God sends His Word to us and He heals us through that Word. So Isaiah 53:4-5 and 1 Peter 2:24 should be enough of His Word for us to believe that we have been healed. We do not need to carry sickness. When Jesus was on the earth, how did He deal with people who were sick? He always healed them. He never pronounced blessing on sickness. There was an evil spirit behind sickness that tormented the people and Jesus always rebuked that evil spirit. Every single person that came to Jesus got healed.

So when you come to Jesus and when you accept Him into your hearts as Lord and Savior, not only should you receive forgiveness of sins, you should also receive healing for your body. Sickness and curse does not belong to us. Instead healing and blessing are the things that belong to us as believers. It's so important to understand what has happened the moment you accepted Christ into your heart. That very moment that you accepted Christ, you were made free from sin and free from all sicknesses. Praise God!
