CONFESS, BELIEVE AND RECEIVE

Date: October 9

Category: Divine Healing

Romans 10:9-10
"Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses (declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms [his] salvation."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThis is a very significant passage in the book of Romans. It represents a great truth that can be applied in various areas of our lives. The confession of our lips is very important in our lives. Actually in Proverbs 18:21 we read, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]." So the tongue is a very influential tool. James acknowledges the tongue's power as well in James 3:5, "Even so the tongue is a little member, and it can boast of great things. See how much wood or how great a forest a tiny spark can set ablaze!" So even though the tongue is such a small part of the human body, it has great power over our lives.

In Romans 10:9, Paul says that the first thing we need to do is confess with our lips that Jesus is Lord. In other words, we have to say aloud that Jesus is King and the Supreme ruler of our lives. Secondly, we have to believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead. So we have to believe that Jesus died for our sins, but the power of God raised Him from the dead and now He is alive. When we confess with our lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, then we will be saved.

Then Paul explains in verse 10a that a person's belief comes from his heart, and through that faith in his heart, he is justified, meaning he becomes acceptable to God. Then in verse 10b he explains that the mouth of a person is how he makes a confession, and through his confession, he confirms his salvation. So it's important here to notice that the things your heart believes and the words your mouth speaks are very powerful in determining your destiny.

So if you have confessed with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and you have believed in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, then you are saved. Notice that in order to be saved, it requires both your confession and your belief. You need both in order to experience the forgiveness of your sins. But really you need both of those aspects to receive anything in life. Everything you will ever achieve in life will require both the confession of your lips and the belief in your heart.

For example, if you want to be baptized in the Holy Spirit, you need to confess it with your mouth and believe in your heart that you will receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit and you will. If you are sick and need a healing in your body, then you need both the confession of your lips and the belief in your heart to receive your healing. If you want success in your marriage, you need to confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that your marriage will be successful and it will be. It's the same way with success in your finances, your business, raising children, etc. Anything you want to receive in life can only come by those two actions: confessing with your mouth and believing in your heart.

Your tongue has tremendous power over your life. What you and I say is an expression of what is in our hearts because out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth will speak (Luke 6:45b). So you have power over your life through the words you say. This includes, your salvation, your healing, your marriage, your children, your finances, etc. But if you speak negatively about your life, then you will only receive negative results. If you believe only negative things in your heart, then you will only see negative outcomes. So if you have been speaking negatively about certain areas in your life, then stop right now and start speaking positively. If you want something good to happen, then you have to speak good things.

Even if you don't quite believe it in your heart, make those positive confessions anyway because eventually (as you continue to speak them), your heart will begin to believe the words you say. Then as that happens, you will see those things that you have confessed start to take place in your life. Your words have great power to determine your future. Remember, in order to be saved you have to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved. So in order to be prosperous, healthy, joyful, and blessed you have to confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that you are all those things, and you will be!
