“MY WORDS WILL NOT PASS AWAY”

Date: October 4

Category: God's Plans

Luke 21:33
"The sky and the earth (that is, the universe, the world) will pass away, but My words will not pass away."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThese are the words of Jesus. It was by Him, through Him, and for Him that the universe was created. He is the Creator of the skies and the earth, and He is the Creator of you and me. There is nothing that exists that He didn't create. We, as humans, procreate. We don't create. A Latin phrase "ex nihilo" (meaning "out of nothing") describes well what the word, "creation" really entails. Only God can create things out of nothing. We, as humans, can't do that. Even when we make children, we make them out of the egg and the seed that God has given us. When we plant trees or flowers, we do so out of the seeds and soil that He created. When we build houses, we build them with the materials that God has made which we then remanufacture (or better said re-create). So only God is able to create things out of nothing.

That's why he is the Supreme Creator. He has masterfully designed this universe, and He has masterfully designed you and me. Human beings send out space shuttles to different planets to explore the universe, but we can never come to the end of the galaxies and we can never understand everything about it. Yet God, the Creator, who created everything in the universe, sees it all. The science of medicine has been exploring the mind and body of man for centuries and in spite of great modern advances, still it hasn't understood every single aspect of the human body and even less about our mind. Yet God, the Creator, knows everything about the human body and soul. Today, that Creator speaks to us in this word.

Here in verse 33, Jesus says that the sky and the earth, which is our universe and our world, are going to pass away one day. Everything we see around us will not last forever because they do not have eternal value to them. Then Jesus says, "But My words will not pass away." That is such a wonderful promise! The words of Jesus will never pass away. Cultures will come and go. Superpowers will come and go. Fads and trends will come and go. But the Word of God will not pass away because it has eternal value. It will be confirmed and affirmed throughout all eternity. So when you and I take this Word and make it part of who we are by transforming ourselves through the renewing of our minds (Roman 12:2), then we too will last forever.

God's words have tremendous power. When He speaks something, it becomes a reality. So when you and I start speaking the words of God after Him, start thinking the thoughts of God after Him, and start doing the works of God after Him, then those things will last forever as well. They will never pass away. So one of the most important things we can ever do is learn the Word of God so that we can make it the umpire of all our decisions. The Word of God should rule supremely in our hearts, our minds, our souls, and our spirits. That way, everything we say about others and ourselves will be rooted in the Word of God.

If you want to know whether or not something is crooked, you have to know what is straight. Then you can line the two things up to one another and recognize which is which. That's what you have to do with the Word of God. Line everything up to the Word (which is straight), and then you will be able to recognize what is crooked. So you should believe everything that the Word of God says concerning who you are, what belongs to you, and what has been promised to you.

Many scientists, philosophers, and thinkers of the past have spoken some things that were false and therefore, those things have been forgotten through the generations. But the Word of God is truth and because it is truth it will last forever. So if you want lasting and eternal value in your life, then take the Word of God and make it a part of who you are.

The words of Jesus are forever. They are more precious than silver and gold. Think back to when Jesus entered the home of Martha. Her sister Mary sat at His feet and listened to His words, while Martha was distracted with much serving (Luke 10:38-41). Then in verse 42b, Jesus said, "Mary has chosen the good portion [that which is to her advantage], which shall not be taken away from her." It's so important that you make the Word of God the priority of your life. Line up what you speak, what you think, and what you do with the Word of God. Everything else will pass away, but the Word of God will last for all eternity.
