Luke 9:20
"And He said to them, But who do you [yourselves] say that I am? And Peter replied, The Christ of God!"

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiAt the time, there was a lot of discussion among the Jews about who Jesus was. Even today, there is still a lot of discussion about who Jesus is. The answer to that question will determine the destiny of each individual. How each and every one of us answers that question will determine our final destination. It determines the destiny of us either spending eternity with Christ or eternity without Christ.

During this time, Jesus and His disciples were going through various towns and streets and everywhere they went, many people spoke about Jesus. So in verse 18 we read, "Now it occurred that as Jesus was praying privately, the disciples were with Him, and He asked them, Who do men say that I am?" Then in verse 19 it says, "And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, that one of the ancient prophets has come back to life." So we can see that some people believed that Jesus was actually John the Baptist, who was beheaded by King Herod, and who came back in the form of Jesus. Some believed that Jesus was the prophet, Elijah because of what it says in Malachi 4:5 about God sending Elijah back to the earth in the last days. And others believed that Jesus was just one of the ancient prophets who had come back to life.

Then we come to verse 20a, "And He said to them, But who do you [yourselves] say that I am?" So when Jesus heard what others were saying about Him, He wanted to know what His disciples would say about Him. Of all the disciples, Peter was always the first to answer. Verse 20b says, "And Peter replied, The Christ of God!" In Greek, "Christ" is translated as "Christos" and in Hebrew it is translated as "Messiah." Really what Christ means is the Anointed One. So Peter declared that Jesus was the Christ, meaning the Anointed One of God.

Today there are many people all around us who say different things about Jesus. Some people say that He doesn't exist, while others say that He did exist but He's only a historical figure. Some say that He was a good teacher and a founder of religion, while others say that He was a lunatic. Many people say many different things about Jesus. But those confessions about Jesus do not have any claim on their lives. However, if you say that Jesus is Christ, the Anointed One of God, then that confession has a radical claim on your life. If you say that Jesus is Lord, then it means that He governs how you live your life. So when others all around you are discarding Jesus, what will you say about Him?

When you have Jesus in your heart, as your Lord and Savior, you have the Anointed One in your heart. With Jesus in your heart, and His Holy Spirit and His Word speaking to you, you have the anointing of God in you. So you have everything that you need to accomplish everything that God has called you to do. That's why it's so important that you and I accept Jesus into our hearts and make that confession with our mouths. With Christ in your life, you have all that you need to be successful. All you have to do is put yourself into action and you'll be successful because you have the anointing of God.

But all of that comes with the confession and the belief in your heart that Jesus is the Anointed One. That is a revelation from God. For you and I to believe and confess that Jesus is Lord, then God the Father (by His Holy Spirit) has to reveal that truth to our hearts. All believers have the Holy Spirit within them. So when you are a believer of Christ, you have the anointing of the Anointed One within you to help you accomplish everything God has called you to do. So today, let's walk in that anointing!
