SPEAK TO THE MOUNTAINS!

Date: September 23

Category: Divine Healing

Matthew 21:21-22
"And Jesus answered them, Truly I say to you, if you have faith (a firm relying trust) and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, Be taken up and cast into the sea, it will be done. And whatever you ask for in prayer, having faith and [really] believing, you will receive."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiAt the time, Jesus was hungry and wanted to pick a fig from a fig tree. In verse 19 it says, "And as He saw one single leafy fig tree above the roadside, He went to it but He found nothing but leaves on it [seeing that in the fig tree the fruit appears at the same time as the leaves]. And He said to it, Never again shall fruit grow on you! And the fig tree withered up at once." So Jesus cursed the fig tree and right away it withered up. When the disciples saw this, they marveled. Yet this divine power to bless or curse was always in God's nature. Anytime He spoke something, it always came to pass. When you examine the Bible, the Old Testament especially, you will notice that everything God spoke was a prophecy that came to pass, and if it hasn't yet, then it will come to pass in its due time.

Now Jesus tells us here that if we have faith in Him, meaning we have trust and reliance upon His name, and we speak anything without doubting in our hearts, then whatever we speak will come to pass as well. The word "doubt" in Greek is "diakrite," which means to question through and through. If we doubt what we speak then we cannot receive what we desire. But if you and I do not doubt that God has given us divine power to speak and cause things to happen, then we will receive whatever we speak. What a great truth!

So not only can we speak to fig trees, we can also speak to mountains. Verse 21b says, "but even if you say to this mountain, Be taken up and cast into the sea, it will be done." Our words mixed with our faith will activate the hand of God in our lives and cause that mountain to be cast into the sea. Now those mountains in our lives can be many things.

For example, you could have a mountain in your marriage. There could be struggles between you and your spouse. Sometimes that is a result of taking each other for granting, meaning not doing the things that you should be doing to please the other person (things that you did before you got married). So in order for that mountain to be removed, you have to speak to it, "Marriage, be restored in the name of Jesus!" After you speak to the mountain, then you have to start doing what you need to do in order to improve your marriage. The same way you got your wife, through affection and love, is the same way you're going to keep your wife. The same way you got your husband, the way your treated him prior to marrying him, is the same way you're going to keep your husband into marriage.

Another mountain in your life could be a financial burden, a debt for example. Most people who study in university often take student loans and accumulate thousands of dollars worth of debt. Most people who buy cars and houses go into debt as well. That burden often creates stress in your life and your family. You need to speak to that mountain, "Debt, be erased and paid off in the name of Jesus!" Once you speak to that mountain, then you have to do all that you need to do in order for the debt to be erased and paid off (by giving your tithes and offerings, decreasing your spending, and working to pay off those debts from the smallest to the largest).

Another mountain could also be health related. Our sickness could be a result of our own actions, such as living under stress, being bitter and resentful (over 80% of sicnesses are caused by bitterness and resentfulness), not eating properly or not drinking sufficient pure water, and not sleeping enough. So now God wants you to speak to that mountain of sickness, "Sickness, you do not belong to me! My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Sickness, I command you to leave my body in Jesus name!" It says in Isaiah 53:5c, "and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole." So we can declare this verse in our lives. But then God might require you to change your lifestyle in order to better your health, such as drinking more water, eating healthier foods, exercising, forgivning someone who has offended you wheter as an child or as an adult, etc.

But the first step to removing any mountain in your life is speaking to it. If you ask, you will receive. Verse 22 says, "And whatever you ask for in prayer, having faith and [really] believing, you will receive." God wants us to go to Him in prayer and ask for the things we have need of. The most significant results in my life have been a direct answer to one or another of my prayers. First, I prayed for the things I wanted and then I received them. So there is power in the words you speak. But remember, your words have to be mixed with faith in order to see the things you have spoken come to pass.
