Matthew 12:37
"For by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiIt's amazing how much weight Jesus puts upon our words. I think we, as people, ought to learn to do the same – to put weight upon our words. Actually, in Proverbs 18:21 we read, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]." So our words have great power. If we read Matthew 12:37 in the German translation Hoffnung fuer Alle, (which means, ‘hope for all'), it says, "Your future is determined by your words."

The brain is an amazing thing. Our brain is about 2% of our entire body weight. Yet it uses about 20-30% of our body's energy. Our brain contains 100 billion neurons, which are nerve cells. There was a study done in South Korea by a neurologist who said that the centre of our brain is our speech centre. When you speak, those things that you speak influence the other neurons in your brain, and those neurons begin working to bring about the things that you speak. For example, if you say, "I'm old," then all the neurons begin working to prepare your body for old age and death. On the other hand, if you say, "I'm young," then all the neurons begin working to give your body strength and vitality. So the words that you and I speak are very influential towards our life situations.

These include words that you speak publicly to others, but also words that you speak privately to yourself. Things that you say to yourself when you face a challenge will determine whether or not you're going to be successful in overcoming that challenge. Jesus says here in Matthew 12:37, "For by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced." When you are in a court case and you are seeking for justice, the judge is going to listen to the words that you speak. Those words will either justify you or they will condemn you. Your words have tremendous power over your life.

That's why it's so important to speak words of encouragement, faith, and blessing concerning yourself and your future. In Jeremiah 29:11 we read, "For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome." Your final outcome is your future. God has a good plan for your future. He wants to bless you and enlarge your territory. He wants to be with you wherever you go and protect you from every evil and harm. He wants to do everything that we read in the prayer of Jabez. (1 Chronicles 4:10)

But it's important that we speak the things that are in line with what God desires for us. The things that you say to yourself in the quietness of your heart have determinative influence on your life and your destiny. If you think you can only fly so high and that's it, then that's as far as you will go. But if you think you can fly higher than that, then you will fly higher than that. Your words will determine how far you will go. That's why what you and I say about ourselves should line up with what God says about us.

Being in ministry, I need to speak divine protection over myself when I travel overseas on a mission's trip. Before I travel on a mission's trip, I have to speak that God will provide all the funds needed to preach the Gospel and to distribute humanitarian aid to the people of the Balkans. For my family, I have to speak positively over my children and their futures. I have to speak positively over my wife and my marriage. For everything in my life, I have to ensure that my words are in line with what the Word of God says. Your speech about your own life will determine what your future will become. If what you say about yourself is not in line with God's Word, cut it out right now. And make sure you speak about yourself only that what God speaks about you.
