I WILL NOT FORGET YOUR WORD

Date: July 7

Category: Godly Character

Psalm 119:13-16
"With my lips have I declared and recounted all the ordinances of Your mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies as much as in all riches. I will meditate on Your precepts and have respect to Your ways [the paths of life marked out by Your law]. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiToday is my birthday and wedding anniversary. What a positive confession from the Word of God for this day! Here we read, "With my lips have I declared and recounted all the ordinances of Your mouth." In other words, this psalmist is pronouncing all of God's Word. Everything that God has spoken is everything that he speaks. We too should declare and recount all the ordinances of God's mouth. The Word of God should always be on our lips no matter where we are and whom we're talking to. The basic content of our conversations should be the Word of God.

Let's say, for example, there is an adverse situation in your life. This could be financial troubles, relationship problems, or health issues. When you are faced with difficult circumstances, should you talk about the problem? Well you shouldn't ignore the problem, but you should talk about the solution instead of talking about the problem. The solution for any given situation is found in the Word of God. That's why God's Word should always be on your lips.

Then in verse 14 we read, "I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies as much as in all riches." It doesn't say that we can't rejoice over riches. It says that we should rejoice over God's Word as much as we do over riches, and actually even more so. When we grow financially, that success is because of God and His Word as well as your prudent action based upon that Word of God. So your gladness and your joy should be geared towards God. Some people work very long and hard hours just to accumulate more and more money. But they work so much that they don't find any time for the Word of God. The Word of God is the most important thing we need in this life, especially if we are to be financially blessed. So we always have to make time for the Word.

We have to set aside time every day of our lives, at least 15-30 minutes, to read the Word of God. That's how we will know what to speak. We can't speak the Word of God if we don't read it. We can't rejoice in God's Word if we don't know it. So devotional time with God is very important. But along with reading God's Word, speaking God's Word, and rejoicing over God's Word, we also have to do something else.

In verse 15 we read, "I will meditate on Your precepts and have respect to Your ways [the paths of life marked out by Your law]." We have to meditate upon God's Word as well. As we're reading the Bible, we have to think about it, examine what it means and then determine how His Word applies to our lives. We have to examine our lives and change whatever needs to be changed in order to line ourselves up to His Word. That's what it means to mediate upon God's Word.

Then in verse 16 we read, "I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word." In other words, we are to enjoy doing what the Word of God says we should do and we should not forget what the Word says. This is so important particularly when you are faced with a situation in your life. You may be at home reading the Word and meditating upon it. You may even speak the Word and rejoice over it. But when you go back out into the world and are faced with life's difficulties, do not forget the Word of God. That's very important. Everything that you have read, spoken and meditated upon should always be in your thoughts so you don't forget it.

Your test will come when you are tempted to sin or when you are faced with a trial. When those times come, are you going to remember the Word of God? We should remember God's Word in any and every life situation. The Word should be our light in every situation because it will guide us to make the right decisions. So let's take time to read the Word of God, speak the Word, meditate upon the Word, and let's remember His Word today! The Word is what will help us through every life situation we face.
