Psalm 108:1
"O God, my heart is fixed (steadfast, in the confidence of faith); I will sing, yes, I will sing praises, even with my glory [all the faculties and powers of one created in Your image]!"

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThis verse in the German translation, Hoffnung fuer Alle, (which means, ‘hope for all') says, "With full confidence do I look into the future, my God. Therefore, I will sing and give you thanks, Lord. Gather new courage my heart, wake up." In other words, when this psalmist looked into his future, he trusted and relied upon God. His heart was fixed, meaning it was steadfast in the confidence of faith. Because of that, he did not look at his future with fear but he looked at it with faith because his heart was fixed on his love toward God.

In 1 John 4:18 we read, "There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror!" When you have perfect love in your heart, that love will cast out all your fears. There is no fear in perfect love. When you are afraid of something, then it means that you are connected to Satan, the father of lies. But when you are walking in perfect love with God and with other people, then you are connected to God because God is love. That perfect love is what makes you confident in your faith toward anything in your life, especially things concerning your future.

Our future is really today! What we do today determines what happens tomorrow. So our future is the total sum of all our activities today. That's why our eyes should be fixed, steadfast, and confident in faith and our hearts should be in perfect love. When we are living that way, then we can look toward our future without fear.

For young people, a lot of the questions they ask may include what college to go to, what career to pursue, who to marry, how many kids to have, etc. All those questions are behind me because I've already had those experiences and I know what decisions I made for myself. But many young people are still asking those questions. Other people may be asking other questions concerning their future including where to relocate, what house to buy, or when to retire.

Regardless of what questions you have, you can stand with confidence knowing that God is going to be there with you as you line your choices up with God and His Word. As you make your life decisions based on God's leading by His Word and His Spirit, then you can be assured that you will be taken care of.

As a result of that confidence that you have, you can now start singing and thanking God, just as the rest of Psalm 108:1 says. "I will sing, yes, I will sing praises, even with my glory [all the faculties and powers of one created in Your image]!" God gives us many opportunities to make choices in our lives. When we make the right choices as the Word of God leads us, then we will rejoice in God!

In the New Living Translation, this verse reads, "My heart is confident in you, O God; no wonder I can sing your praises! Wake up, my soul!" Rejoicing in the Lord will revive our souls because our hearts are confident in the Lord. We aren't just the body that everyone sees. Even though the body is the only visible aspect, we are primarily a spiritual being. God only communicates to our spirits. So we need to revive and strengthen that spirit through the Word of God. As the Spirit of God strengthens us, we can sing and have confidence in Him. Despite all the storms we may face in this life, our hearts can be confident in God and sing songs of praises unto Him!

Let's think back to the story of Elijah and his servant who were being attacked by the Persian army. Elijah was calm, but his servant wasn't because he didn't see the army of angels that were surrounding them ready to defend them from the enemy. But then Elijah prayed that God would open his servant's eyes – not his natural eyes, but his spiritual eyes – so that he could see the many angels around them to protect them.

There is a spiritual realm around us that we need to be aware of. God is always with us, communicating to our spirits. So knowing that, we should all be confident in Him, whether we are struggling with decisions for our future or struggling with trials and storms. God is there with us. As long as our hearts are fixed on Him we will see the deliverance of the Lord and praise our God!
