WISDOM, FAVOR AND SUCCESS

Date: June 26

Category: Prosperity

Psalm 90:14, 12, 17
"O satisfy us with Your mercy and loving-kindness in the morning [now, before we are older], that we may rejoice and be glad all our days." "So teach us to number our days, that we may get us a heart of wisdom." "And let the beauty and delightfulness and favor of the Lord our God be upon us; confirm and establish the work of our hands – yes, the work of our hands, confirm and establish it."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiAll of these verses are very powerful verses. In verse 14 we read that we should be satisfied with God's mercy and loving-kindness before we are old. This is a very interesting verse because if we are satisfied with God's mercy and loving-kindness while we are young, this passage says that we will rejoice and be glad all our days.

The beginning of your life is the most significant. A person's youthful years, as they are making important life decisions, are the most crucial years of a person's life. There are three decisions that are the most important decisions any person can make. The first one is the decision of eternal life, whether to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. The second most important decision is to select a spouse. The third most important decision is what type of career to pursue. Every person, at one point or another, will have to make those three decisions in their lives.

It's interesting to notice that the period from the teenage years to the early twenties are the most important years for decision-making. The time that we look and behave the most foolishly is the same time that we are faced with life's most crucial decisions. That's why it's so important for us to be satisfied with the mercy and loving-kindness of God while we are young.

To be satisfied with God's mercy and loving-kindness is really to enjoy God every day of our lives. In Lamentations 3:22-23 we read, "It is because of the Lord's mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness." So it says here that God's mercy and loving-kindness are new every morning.

But why do we need God's mercy and loving-kindness? Why do we need to sit at the doorpost of God and listen for His voice? We need God's mercy so that we may rejoice and be glad all the days of our lives. Joy and fulfillment in life really comes through that mercy of God in our lives.

Let's now read in Psalm 90:12, "So teach us to number our days, that we may get us a heart of wisdom." If we want to have a wise heart then we have to know how to number the days right. Numbering our days means living our lives every day to the fullest. It means reading and obeying God's Word every day to make every day a blessed day. After all, true wisdom is found in God and His Word. That's what we are to do if we want to have a wise heart.

Now let's read verse 17. "And let the beauty and delightfulness and favor of the Lord our God be upon us; confirm and establish the work of our hands – yes, the work of our hands, confirm and establish it." So when we number our days and are satisfied by the Lord's mercy and loving-kindness, not only will we be glad all the days of our lives and have wisdom in our hearts, but God will also confirm and establish the work of our hands. He will do this because of his favor that is upon us.

It's important to note also that our success comes because of the favor of the Lord. In Luke 2:52 we read, "And Jesus increased in wisdom (in broad and full understanding) and in stature and years, and in favor with God and man." So Jesus had great wisdom and stature, but He also had favor with God and with man. It's important to have favor with God first, but we also need the favor of man. That's why we should act towards people the way God wants us to act. Then we will receive favor.

When you have the favor of God upon your life, then you will be successful in whatever you decide to do in your life. That's what it means to when God says that He will confirm and establish the work of your hands. The Lord is the One who confirms and establishes, but He does it through our hard work and diligence. But it's so important to take into consideration all the verses we studied today. We are to be satisfied by God's mercy and loving-kindness, especially while we are young, so that we will rejoice all the days of our lives. Also, we are to number our days, meaning we should spend time every day sitting at God's doorpost listening to His instruction and obeying His Word. Then we will be wise in our hearts, and that wisdom will bring us favor with God and with people so that all our works will be confirmed and established. So let's take what we have learned today and apply it into our lives because once we do, God will ensure that the work of our hands will be successful.
