GOD’S PHONE NUMBER

Psalm 50:14-15
"Offer to God the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and pay your vows to the Most High, and call on Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall honor and glorify Me."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiSome people call Psalm 50:15 the phone number of God. Anytime you need to talk to God, you just turn to this Scripture and you'll find His phone number. This verse says, "Call on Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall honor and glorify Me." So God is always there to help us when we are in a time of need.

But let's go back to verse 14 and read about what we need to do before we can dial the phone number of God. Verse 14a says, "Offer to God the sacrifice of thanksgiving…" So God wants us to be thankful in any and every given situation in our lives. The Jewish people were to be thankful at all times even when they experienced bad things. They weren't thankful for those bad things, but they were thankful to God that their situation wasn't worse than what it was.

That's how the Jewish people looked at things and that's how we should look at life as well. We should offer to God the sacrifice of thanksgiving in any situation regardless of how we feel. Then it says in verse 14b, "And pay your vows to the Most High." So make sure you do what you have promised God you would do.

We should always keep our promises whether it is to God or to other people. Our promise is our word and we should keep it. Just like God's Word is His promise to us. Just as He is always faithful to keep His promises, we should keep ours too, unless of course your promises are not in line with His Word. If you have made foolish promises, which are contrary to the Word, then don't keep them.

That's why it's never good to make promises in a hurry. You have to be careful of what you promise and make sure you can actually keep it before you make it. It's better not to promise at all than to promise and not deliver. God will hold you accountable for the things you've promised, especially things that you have promised Him.

Let's see what it says in verse 23. "He who brings an offering of praise and thanksgiving honors and glorifies Me; and he who orders his way aright [who prepares the way that I may show him], to him I will demonstrate the salvation of God."

So when we bring an offering of praise and thanksgiving to God, we are rejoicing in God and exalting His name. In doing that, we are honoring Him. Let's think back to the story of Jonah. When Jonah disobeyed God, God sent a fish to swallow him up. While he was inside the belly of the fish, he cried out to God. In Jonah 2:9 we read, "But as for me, I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation and deliverance belong to the Lord!"

There is greater power in giving thanks to God than in whining and complaining. Giving thanks provides us with more energy whereas complaining depletes our energy. So when you're faced with a life situation that seems troublesome, instead of wasting your energy by complaining and murmuring (as the children of Israel did while they were in the wilderness), give God thanks! Praise the name of Jesus! Give glory to His name! By worshiping God in your difficult situation, you are producing more energy for yourself.

Then you will find the phone number of God in Psalm 50:15, "And call on Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall honor and glorify Me." So after we give God thanks, then we can call upon Him to help us out of our difficult situation. Whenever you have difficulties, cry out to God and He will answer and deliver you out of your troubles.

Verse 15 is God's phone number. If we have offered up to God the sacrifices of thanksgiving and have kept our vows to Him, then we have every right to call that number and experience the deliverance of the Lord. But we also have to recognize that it's God who helps you. It's God who gives you the ability to prosper and be successful. It's God who sees you through your difficult times and brings you victory.

That's why the last part of verse 15 says, "I will deliver you, and you shall honor and glorify Me." Honoring God and giving God glory is acknowledging God in your life and giving Him the worship that He deserves. So let's give God thanks today. Let us exalt His name and recognize Him in every life situation. God's deliverance is just a phone call away, so let's offer up a sacrifice of thanksgiving to Him today!
