Psalm 37:4-5
"Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThis is a classic verse from the Bible. It's a very good verse to know by heart. The first part of this verse is a command. It says that we are to delight ourselves in the Lord. That means we are to enjoy God and be excited about Him. It's like when you get excited about a gift. You should get excited about God in the same way except more so. God should be the primary source of joy in your life, over anything and everything else.

Our delight is based on the Word of God and God Himself. That's why we rejoice. When we rejoice about somebody, it means that we know that person. We have a good relationship with that person because we've spent time with them. But how can we be excited about someone we don't know? How can we be excited about someone we don't spend time with? That's why we should always spend time with God, reading and meditating upon His Word. That's the source of our joy and excitement.

Based on this passage, the first thing we must do is delight in God. Once we do that, once we make God the priority of our lives, then He will give us the desires and the secret petitions of our hearts. Secret petitions are the things you pray for when you're alone in your prayer closet that no one else knows about. The Lord knows and He will grant them to you if you delight in Him first.

This passage is a conditional promise, meaning God will fulfill this promise if we first do what we're required to do. When we delight in Him, then we will receive the desires of our hearts, our deepest longings. Some people think that because they desire something then it must mean God doesn't want them to have it. But that's not true. When you delight in God, you will never long for anything that is against His will. Because they're not against His will, He will give them to you. That's a promise!

Then we read another command in verse 5, "Commit your way to the Lord," which means to roll and repose each care of your load on Him. In other words, whatever you decide to do in your life, you must first commit it to the Lord, meaning give it to Him. Allow God to empower you with the strength you need to do whatever it is you want to do and trust Him to help you become successful in it. That's what it means to commit your ways to the Lord.

As long as you line up what you want to do with what God wants you to do as it is written in His Word, then you will be successful. When you are doing what He wants, then He will certainly help you be successful. Then verse 5b says, "trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass." So after you've done your part, you have to trust God for the results. Once you have done your best, the results are up to God.

If you work your hardest at your job, then the results of that labor is up to God. God will make sure you are successful and blessed for all the hard work you've done. But let's say you decide not to do your best. Let's say you decide to just do what is required of you and nothing more. When the company has to lay off workers, you will probably be one of the first ones to go. But if you work hard and do your best, then God will make sure you're always blessed.

Another good example is in relationships. If you do more than what is required and you work hard to please your spouse, then your marriage will be successful. But the important thing to remember is that we must first put forth our best effort. Once we do, then the results are up to God. Once we do our part, we don't have to worry about what the end result will be. You have to commit your ways to God and then He will bring you the results you want and the desires of your heart – success, prosperity, a happy marriage, or anything else that you may long for.

That's why all the glory belongs to Him and not us. All we're doing is what we're required to do. God is the One who bestows the blessing upon us. God is the One who brings us success. So God is the One who deserves all the glory and praise for it.

This passage says that if we make God the first priority in our lives and if we care about the things that are important to Him then He will care about the things that are important to us. And He will give those things to us because we have first delighted in Him. Also, if we commit our ways to the Lord and line up our actions with His Word, and do our best to achieve success, then God will bring us that desired result. This is a promise for your life today. So choose to delight in the Lord and commit your ways to Him and let's see what blessings God will bring your way!
