Category: Satisfied in God

Isaiah 55:2-3
"Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your earnings for what does not satisfy? Hearken diligently to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness [the profuseness of spiritual joy]. Incline your ear [submit and consent to the divine will] and come to Me; hear, and your soul will revive; and I will make an everlasting covenant or league with you, even the sure mercy (kindness, goodwill, and compassion) promised to David."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiGod is speaking to us here. He is telling us to listen to Him and do what He says. When we do that, then we will have enough of everything. We will be satisfied in God. Saint Augustine once said that God created humans with a vacuum in their hearts that only God can satisfy. But people often try to fill that vacuum with other things. They think that if they marry a good spouse, they'll be happy; if they have children, they'll be satisfied. People want to fill their hearts with all kinds of things, such as nice houses, expensive cars, or lots of money. But those things only satisfy them for a period of time. That's because only God can satisfy that void within their hearts. We can see through this Scripture that God wants us to come to Him, listen to His Word, and do what He says. In that obedience, we will have more than enough. Our souls will be satisfied.

But we have to take His instruction. It says in verse 3a, "Incline your ear [submit and consent to the divine will]…" That's how we will have the life that God intends for us, a life full of peace and joy. That life comes from obedience to the Lord. Everything that God commands throughout His Word will bring us fullness in life. That obedience is what brings us to satisfaction. But it comes from the Holy Spirit who resides within us. That Holy Spirit communicates to our spirit and gives us wisdom, peace, understanding, and leads us to all truth. So, make sure you seek the Lord. Read the Word of God, and obey it because in that you'll receive full satisfaction. In that, God will ensure that you have more than enough of everything that you need.
