Matthew 3:2, 8
"And saying, Repent (think differently; change your mind, regretting your sins and changing your conduct), for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." "Bring forth fruit that is consistent with repentance [let your lives prove your change of heart];"

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiJohn the Baptist began preaching this message, and it's very similar to what Jesus was preaching in the following chapter. The message is simple. It basically teaches us to repent from our sins and align our actions up with our repentance. From the depths of our hearts, we should be changed. We shouldn't live the way we want. We should turn towards God. It says that we should think differently, change our minds, regret our sins, and change our conduct. That's what God wants us to do. The word ‘repentance' in the Greek language is a combination of two words: ‘meta' and ‘nous.' Meta means beyond; nous means the mind. So repentance is beyond mind and reason. In other words, change your ways by faith, not just by reason. We, as people, always do what our minds tell us to do. If we have fear in our minds, then our minds are going to travel a hundred miles per hour to prove us right. But if we have faith on our minds, then our minds will travel a hundred miles per hour to prove us right in that way as well.

The Bible says in verse 8, "Bring forth fruit that is consistent with repentance [let your lives prove your change of heart]." So you are to show that you have really changed through your deeds. That's how people will see your change of heart. Let's say, for example, you fear something. But if you start taking steps to conquer that fear instead of just staying in it, then you will see your fear beginning to disappear. For instance, if you are afraid of an exam, your fear will slowly disappear once you start studying for it. Then once you go to write your exam, there won't be any more fear within you.

It is through our actions that we show our change of heart. Are your actions different now than they were before you became a Christian? If you continue doing the same things in the future as you have been doing in the past, then you will continue reaping the same results. If you want different results, then you have to start changing your actions. In this case, God wants us to align our actions to His Word. In doing this, we won't make choices just based on what we feel is right, but what God says is right. That's why we need to read the Word of God. So align your actions up with God's Word. Think differently, change your mind, regret your sins, and change your conduct, but prove that change through your actions.
