2 Timothy 1:6-7
"That is why I would remind you to stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you by means of the laying on of my hands [with those of the elders at your ordination]. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThe first verse is written in a command form. It says that if you have a gift, you have to stir it up. In other words, if you have a gift, then you have to develop it and perfect it. It cannot develop by itself. Let's say, for example, your talent is playing the piano. That is a gift from God. Now it's your job to stir that gift up. That means spending time practicing and perfecting your gift. Some of your gifts may have been received the moment you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. It could be that when you got saved, the Holy Spirit came inside of you and gave you a gift. Now you have to figure out what that supernatural gift is and use it to serve the Lord.

You should never be afraid to stir up your gift. It says in verse 7 that God has not given us a spirit of fear. Instead, He has given us a spirit of power, love, and a calm and well-balanced mind. He gave us His Spirit. Along with power, we have the spirit of love. So when you open your mouth, love speaks. When you move your hands and feet, love moves. So you have to always ask yourself if your words and actions represent love.

Along with the spirit of love, God has also given us a calm and well-balanced mind. A well-balanced mind means knowing what is right and wrong. A well-balanced mind is a peaceful mind. A well-balanced mind is a mind that's wise. Then it says that God has given us a spirit of discipline and self-control. Discipline and self-control are actually gifts from God, which need to be stirred up as well.

So you always have to know what spirit God has given you. He hasn't given you the spirit of fear, but the spirit of power, love, and a well-balanced mind with discipline and self-control. So let that spirit live inside your heart. Let that spirit reside in your thoughts. Let that spirit come out through your words and your actions. Know that fearful thoughts aren't from God. We have the supernatural Spirit of God inside of us, so let's use it!
