GOD HAS GOOD PLANS

Date: May 16

Category: God's Plans

Jeremiah 29:11-13
"For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome. Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed you. Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiIn this verse, God is not only speaking to the Israelites, but He is also speaking to us today. He says, "I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you." So God has specific thoughts and plans for your life. Even before He ever created you, He already had plans for you. What kind of thoughts and plans does God have? Have you ever asked yourself that?

Notice what this Scripture says about God's plans for us. It says, "…thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil." In Hebrew, the word ‘peace' is ‘shalom.' Shalom means nothing missing and nothing broken in your life. It means that you are perfectly whole in your spirit, mind, emotions, and body. Those are God's plans for you. You choose what you want to be in life. You decide if you want to be a preacher, a writer, a soccer player, a pilot or whatever. But once you choose, God's plans are to ensure that you will be well and at peace. God doesn't purpose evil for you. He has a purpose for good. It says, "…to give you hope in your final outcome." God doesn't gain when you seek Him. God stays the same. When you and I seek God, we gain hope in our future.

When you turn your heart to God, when you realize that all sources of joy, purpose, and goodness are in God, then He will answer you when you call upon Him. It says in verse 12, "Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed you." So God will answer our prayers. This is God's promise to us.

When I was younger, I used to pray for a wife. I had several disappointing experiences, but I prayed for a wife with specific qualities in her body, soul, and spirit, and God answered my prayers according to what I prayed for. I remember praying for a ministry. I wanted to work for the Lord, and I asked Him to help me establish a ministry. God answered my prayer and opened the doors for me. So God will be faithful to fulfill his promise to us if we seek Him.

The last verse in this passage says, "Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart." The Hebrew word used here is ‘darash,' which means seeking God to the point of sweating. It's like people who seek for gold in mines. They dig and dig to the point of sweating while they search. That's how we are to seek God. We are to seek God before anything else in this life.

When we seek God, we will find Him when we seek Him with all of our hearts. When you find Him, you'll find peace, prosperity, and the goodness of God. There will be nothing missing and nothing lacking in your life. If you don't seek God first, you'll always lack something; you'll always miss something. So make sure you seek God more than any other hidden treasure. God is as close to you as you want Him to be. God hasn't moved. He's always there.
