2 Samuel 7:3, 9a
"And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you." "And I was with you wherever you went…"

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiWe read in this chapter that Nathan was a prophet who spoke a word of God to King David. If we read the first two verses of this chapter, the Bible says, "When King David dwelt in his house and the Lord had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, the king said to Nathan, the prophet, See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells within curtains."

David didn't feel that it was right for him to have a better dwelling place than God. So he decided to build a temple for God. He had a longing and a desire in his heart to do something for the Lord. The Bible doesn't say that God told David to build a temple. David wanted to build a temple for God out of the goodness of his heart.

So when David made that decision, Nathan came to him and said, "Go do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you." All that David had in his heart was to do something for God. David wanted to please God. He wanted to work for God. He wanted to bless God. He was the one who made that decision.

So maybe I could ask you today, "What is in your heart? Do you have something in your heart that you want to do for God?" For example, helping the poor, sharing your resources to further the Kingdom of God, or sharing your skills to help someone else. Money isn't the only thing that we can give. Money is important, but it isn't the only thing we can give towards the Kingdom of God. We all have talents and gifts that can be used for the Lord.

Even our time is important to give to the Lord. We cannot do everything just for ourselves. We should give up some of our time to do something for God, by blessing those in need, encouraging people, and praying for others. We should do these things even if we don't get paid for them. I work in the ministry, but I do many things within the ministry that nobody pays me for. I just do them because God is in my heart and I want to bless people. I know that in some way, God will reward me and provide for me because I'm doing something for Him.

So ask yourself what's in your heart to do for God. God shouldn't have to ask you to do something for Him. There should already be something in your heart that you want to do. And if there is anything that you can do for the Lord, do it. So don't expect God to tell you what to do. That's your decision to make.

I had to decide what I wanted to do with my life. In 1987, God spoke to my heart and said, "Follow Me." So I decided that wherever Jesus would go, I would go. Whatever Jesus would do, I would do. I decided to follow God. But whether I do it through television, on the mission field, in churches, out on the streets, or even in my own home was my decision. That was my choice – just as long as I followed God.

Once you decide to do something for God in a way that will glorify Him, He promises that He will be with you. The second part of verse 3 says, "...for the Lord is with you." So God is going to help you succeed in whatever you decide to do. In verse 9a God says, "And I was with you wherever you went…" That just confirms that God was with King David. So that means that God will be with us as well.

In a German translation called Hoffnung für Alle, (which means, ‘hope for all'), verse 9a says, "Whatever you decide to do, I have always helped you…" So God has always helped us in everything we've done, and He will continue to help us in all that we will do for Him. But we are the ones who make the decision regarding what we want to do for God. Once we make that decision, God says that He will be with us. So maybe I can ask you again, "What is in your heart to do for God today?"
