2 Samuel 3:1, 5:10
"There was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. But David grew stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker." "David became greater and greater, for the Lord God of hosts was with him."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiSomething I would like to stress is that growth, development, and success all come by process. Success is not something that happens overnight. Successful people often hear the phrase, "You became successful overnight!" Usually they respond, "It must have been a twenty year long night." It's because success comes with time and process. It's the product of hard work and diligence.

At this time in history, we read in the Bible that Saul had already died. But his army was still fighting under the leadership of his son. Meanwhile David ruled over Judah while the son of Saul ruled over the rest of Israel. We read about the men from Saul's army joining David's. Over time, David had more soldiers and because he had more soldiers, he won more victories. Seven years later, he eventually won the war and became the ruler over all of Israel.

In verse 10 of chapter 5 we read, "David became greater and greater, for the Lord God of hosts was with him." The word "became" indicates that this was a process. David wasn't all of a sudden made great. The Bible says that he became great, meaning over time he worked to achieve greatness. He had to fight many battles before he could win the war. So becoming successful and achieving great things in life comes through a process. It takes time and hard work.

Success in relationships doesn't happen overnight either. When two people get married, they often realize that they come from very different social backgrounds even if they lived across the street from each other. It's because they grew up with different families. Different families have different cultures, different traditions, and different rules and routines. When two people get married, they suddenly have to blend the two backgrounds together. But in a marriage, you have to learn to give and take. You have to learn how your spouse understands love, and show your love in the way that they will accept it.

One of the most important things to have if you want to be successful is a goal. Know what it is that you want to strive for. Of course, you have to learn what is important and balance your priorities in life accordingly. And you learn that through the Word of God. Then you have to plan your life in a way that will allow you to achieve your goals. Do what you need to do every day to bring yourself one step closer to your goal. That's how you achieve success.

If you don't have a clear goal, you will never know if you are successful or not. You will never know whether you are winning or losing in life. A goal will help you keep focused. When you determine what your goal is, then you have to work towards that goal every day. Your efforts will eventually bring you to that goal. But remember: success is a process. It doesn't happen overnight. It takes time and hard work.
