Deuteronomy 31:6,8
"Be strong, courageous, and firm; fear not nor be in terror before them, for it is the Lord your God Who goes with you; He will not fail you or forsake you…It is the Lord Who goes before you; He will [march] with you; he will not fail you or let you go or forsake you; [let there be no cowardice or flinching, but] fear not, neither become broken [in spirit] (depressed, dismayed, and unnerved with alarm)."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiIn verse 6, Moses speaks to the Israelites, and in verse 8, he speaks to Joshua. It's interesting to notice that the same encouragement that Moses gives to the nation, he gives to Joshua as an individual. So this word of encouragement applies to all of us today as well. What does Moses say to the Israelites? He says, "Be strong, courageous, and firm…" This was before they entered the promised land. So before they went to fight Moses said, "Fear not."

Someone once said that the in the Bible, the phrase "Fear not" is found 365 times. That means we have that same command for each day of the year. So when you wake up in the morning, fear not. When circumstances arise, fear not. When you go to bed at night, fear not. Why shouldn't you be afraid? Well verse 6b says, "..for it is the Lord your God Who goes with you; He will not fail you or forsake you." When God has given you a promise that He will help you, He will help you. That's why you shouldn't be afraid.

Notice what Moses says in verse 8 to Joshua, "It is the Lord Who goes before you…" So not only will God be with you, but God will go before you. God is going to prepare whatever needs to be prepared in front of you before you go and fight your battles. Not only will God go before you, but He will also march with you, this verse says. Then it says, "He will not fail you or let you go or forsake you…" So that's why you should not be afraid. God will do whatever it takes to make sure you win your battle.

When danger comes in your direction, you are not to be scared of it but you are to see how you can escape from it. This is the key point in this word of encouragement. We should not be people who operate on fear. If there is fear in our hearts, then God didn't place it there. The enemy placed it there, so do not let it stay there.

Don't give any thoughts to fear. Your thoughts should be given to faith. God will be with you. God will go before you, and God will march with you. People will fail you, but God will never fail you. That's a promise from God. That's why we should be strong, courageous and firm.

That's something that we have to believe in our hearts and speak with our mouths. If you believe that in your heart, but you speak out of your mouth fear, then you undercut your faith. The Bible says that if we confess with our mouths and believe in our hearts that Jesus is Lord then we are saved (Romans 10:9). So salvation comes through believing and confessing. So victory will come by believing and confessing as well. This is the word of the living God who never lies. He is going to be with you, go before you, march with you, and never fail or forsake you. You have no reason to be afraid.
