LENDER AND NOT BORROWER

Date: March 19

Category: Prosperity

Deuteronomy 15:4-6
"But there will be no poor among you, for the Lord will surely bless you in the land which the Lord your God gives you for an inheritance to possess. If only you carefully listen to the voice of the Lord your God, to do watchfully all these commandments which I command you this day. When the Lord your God blesses you as He promised you, then you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow; and you shall rule over many nations, but they shall not rule over you."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiWe can see here that obedience brings prosperity. Verse 4 says, "But there will be no poor among you…" What does it mean to be poor? It means not having enough. But why won't you be poor? Well it says here that the Lord will surely bless you. The blessing of God means divine anointing, divine endowment, and divine enablement. It means that God will give you the ability to create your own wealth and not be in poverty.

But it says in verse 5 that this blessing will only come when you listen to the voice of God. So if you want divine anointing and divine enablement in your life, then you must carefully listen to the voice of the Lord your God. To carefully listen to someone means paying special attention to that person. That's how God requires us to listen to Him.

But what is the purpose of listening to the voice of God? Let's read the second half of verse 5, "..to do watchfully all these commandments which I command you this day." The purpose of carefully listening to God is to obey what God says. In our obedience is how we receive the blessing of God. Verse 4 tells us that the blessing of God means there will be no poverty among us. But verse 6 further describes what that blessing is.

Verse 6 says, "When the Lord your God blesses you as He promised you, then you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow…" So not only will you have enough to not be poor but also you will be well off. You'll be so well off that you will lend to others. So once we are blessed, we will lend to many and not be borrowers of any.

The rest of verse 6 says, "..and you shall rule over many nations, but they shall not rule over you." When you owe money to somebody, it makes you a slave to the person or institution that you owe money to. The borrower is the lender's slave. So instead of you ruling over them, they rule over you. They can take your house, your car, or whatever you have purchased by credit away if you don't pay your payments. They rule over you, and that's not the blessing of God.

All you need to do in order to be financially well is manage your money wisely, meaning putting aside a minimum 20% for your future. Accordig to the author, Robert T. Kiyosaki, you should be financially free in 20 years. Financial freedom means having enough money so that you don't have to work for the rest of your life. The time to start is now. If after 20 years of working you don't have enough money set aside to live for the rest of your life, then you've mismanaged your money.

Kiyosaki states that by the time you're 30, you should have at least one full year's worth of income saved up. By the time you're 40, you should have at least 5 years of annual income saved up. By the time you're 50, you should have 10 years of annual income saved up. All you need is 20 years of putting money aside. Money management is a blessing because that's how you become a lender and not a borrower.

So God will keep His promise and bless you, but your blessing depends on you if you're going to carefully listen to the voice of God. It depends on you if you're going to watchfully do the commandments of God. But once you receive God's blessing, what you do with that will determine if you become a lender to the nations or a borrower from others.
