Numbers 15:39-40
"And it shall be to you a fringe or tassel that you may look upon and remember all the commandments of the Lord and do them, that you may not spy out and follow after [the desires of] your own heart and your own eyes, after which you used to follow and play the harlot [spiritually, if not physically], that you may remember and do all My commandments and be holy to your God."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiGod is saying in this passage that we should not follow after the desires of our own heart. The Bible says in Matthew 15:9, "For out of the heart come evil thoughts (reasonings and disputings and designs) such as murder, adultery, sexual vice, theft, false witnessing, slander, and irreverent speech." So everybody, Christian or non-Christian, is capable of doing all those evil things. That's why God tells us not to follow what our heart says.

God also tells us in this passage not to follow our eyes either. We should not conduct our lives based on what we see around us. If we just pay attention to what our eyes see, then we aren't walking in faith. Now that we are believers of Christ Jesus, we should conduct our lives based on the Word of God.

If the things you feel and the things you see are not in line with what the Word of God says, then change your way of thinking and start speaking the Word of God. We should never allow what we feel and what we see hinder our spirits. Consult with the Word of God. Include God's words into your thoughts and feelings. You should always ask yourself what God says about your situation. If you don't know, go and read the Word until you find out.

Verse 40 of this chapter says, "That you may remember and do all My commandments and be holy to your God." So we become holy through our obedience. In other words, we'll become separated from worldly use and become sanctified for godly use. That's what it means to be holy. We'll be determined to think, speak, and act in line with what God speaks in His Word.

It doesn't matter what anybody says. If something is not in line with the Word of God, then it is wrong. That includes your thoughts and your feelings and what you see around you. God's Word is truth and our lives should be conducted based on that truth and only that truth – nothing else. If we want to be successful and happy in life, then we need to align ourselves up with the Word of God.
