Leviticus 22:15-16
"The priests shall not profane the holy things the Israelites offer to the Lord. And so cause them [by neglect of any essential observance] to bear the iniquity when they eat their holy things; for I the Lord sanctify them."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThis text is about the sacrifices of the people of God for the service of God. The Israelites were supposed to give their tithes to the Levites and they were supposed to give God all the offerings (sin offering, peace offering, thanks offering, etc.). When they were offering that to the Lord, they had to give it to the Levites.

A portion of those sacrifices went to the Lord; for example, the blood from the animals and all the fat had to be burned for the Lord. Then a good portion of meat had to go to the Levites and their families. Then from that portion, the Levites had to give 10% to the priests. If the priests and the Levites were to give of these sacrifices to the common people, then great guilt would be brought onto them. This is because that offering belongs to the ministers.

If we translate this principle to apply in our society today, we can understand that people who keep their tithes and offerings for themselves will bring curses upon their lives. It says in Malachi 3:9, "You are cursed with the curse, for you are robbing Me, even this whole nation." That means that if we keep our tithes and offerings for ourselves then we are bringing about curses in our lives. Malachi 3:10 says, "Bring all the tithes (the whole tenth of your income) into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now by it, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." This is the only place in the Bible where God says, "Test Me." So we ought to test God in our tithes and offerings and see Him open the windows of heaven and bless us abundantly.

But when we do not tithe and bring our offerings to the Lord, we bring curse upon ourselves. It says in Leviticus 22:16 that we bring guilt upon ourselves. Our tithes and offerings do not belong to us anyway; they belong to the Lord. Of everything that we bring in, the first 10% belongs to the Lord. It should be used and consumed by the priests for the Kingdom of God. Otherwise, there will be great guilt that will come upon you, and the Lord will not be able to sanctify you, it says in verse 16b.

When we obey God's Word, when we make sure that there is enough for the priests, then God will open the windows of heaven and pour out His blessing upon us that there won't be enough room to receive it. This is a promise from the Lord. When we make sure there is enough in the house of God, you and I will be recipients of God's great blessing from heaven.
