”ARISE, AND GO!”

Date: January 26

Category: Prosperity

Judges 7:9
"That same night the Lord said to Gideon, Arise, go down against their camp, for I have given it into your hand."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiGideon was one of the judges that God chose to lead Israel during a time in Israel's history when "every man did what was right in his own eyes" (Judges 21:25b). During this time, the Israelites didn't follow the Lord. As a result, they would encounter many different hardships. When those hardships became too overwhelming, they would cry out to the Lord for help. Then the Lord would bring them a deliverer, which was a judge. In this case, Gideon was the judge that God chose to deliver the Israelites from the Midianites.

So in this verse we see that God told Gideon, "Arise, go down against their camp." In other words, for God to deliver Israel from the Midianites, Gideon had to rise up and go down to the camp of the enemy. Then God said, "For I have given it into your hand." So not only was Gideon supposed to arise and go down and face the enemy, but he also had to fight, using all the weaponry he had and the 300 people that were with him (verse 7). That's how God gave the Midianites into the hands of Gideon.

Then in verse 10 we read, "But if you fear to go down, go with Purah your servant down to the camp." Then in verse 11a it says, "And you shall hear what they say, and afterward your hands shall be strengthened to go down against the camp." In other words, strength would come into Gideon based on what he heard. But in the same way strength comes by hearing, so does fear. The greatest obstacle in overcoming any challenge in life is fear. Fear tolerated is faith contaminated. If we are fearful then we cannot walk in faith. So if we hear a voice and then we become fearful after hearing that voice, then we are hearing the wrong voice. But if we hear a voice and then become strengthened and empowered with faith, then we are hearing the right voice – which is God's voice.

Then in verse 15b we read what Gideon said, "Arise, for the Lord has given into your hand the host of Midian." It's very interesting to notice that once Gideon was strengthened, he began to speak what God was speaking. As he spoke what God spoke, then he began to move as God instructed him to move. That's how he became successful. So if we listen to the voice of other people that lead us away into fear, then we will not do what we need to do in order to overcome our challenges. But if we listen to the voice of God that empowers us to be strengthened with faith, then we will begin to speak those words into our lives and do what God wants us to do, which will bring us to success.

In Judges 18:10 we read, "When you go, you will come to people [feeling] safe and secure. The land is broad [widely extended on all sides]; and God has given it into your hands – a place where there is no want of anything that is in the earth." In other words, God has already promised to give us everything that we need for our lives on this earth. He has already promised to put into our hands everything we need and want. God wants to bring us to a place where there is no want of anything, so that we have more than enough.

Since God has already promised us this, why are so many believers still struggling with needs and wants that are unmet? Well they have not done anything to get the things that they want. The way God gave the Midianites over to Gideon was by giving them into his hands, meaning he had to put his hands to work and fight. The way God gives us anything in life is by the effort of our hands. So that means that we have to put our hands to work as well and do everything we need to do in order to receive the things that we want. God is the enabler who gives us the ability to accomplish any task ahead of us.

According to Joshua 1:8, there is prosperity that we can receive. But we are the ones who have to work in order to receive it. According to Deuteronomy 8:18, there is wealth that we can create. But we are the ones who have to work in order to create it. God is the one who strengthens and empowers us to do so, but we are the ones who have to put our hands to work in order to receive into our hands the things that God has promised to give us. So today, let us be examples of Gideon. Let us arise and go, and let us possess the things that we desire to receive.
