A TIME TO SOW; A TIME TO UPROOT

Date: January 19

Category: Prosperity

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
"To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiNotice the first part of verse 2. It says, "A time to be born and a time to die…" So there will come a day that everyone will die. There are some people who will never die because the Lord Jesus Christ will come and translate them. But some people will die before then. So it's appointed to man that there will be a time to die. Once that happens, there comes judgment. That means we will all stand before the Lord and give an account to God for what we did here on earth. Our life here on earth is not forever. We are only on this earth for a season. Everyone has an appointed time. So, there is a time to be born, but there is also a time to die. But I really want to focus on the second part of verse 2. It says, "…a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted." It's important that we plant seeds. Without even knowing it we all plant seeds everyday of our lives. The words we say and the things we do are all seeds. Eventually those seeds will reap a fruit.

If there are things in your life that you don't like, it may be because you have planted some bad seeds or no seeds at all. Think of gardening as an example. If you don't do anything to your garden, what often pops up? Weeds! Well it's the same thing in life. If you don't do anything positive for your life, only negative things will happen. Nothing good will happen unless you plant some good seeds.

So you have to consciously think about what kinds of things you want to reap in your life. Then you have to decide what kinds of seeds you need to plant in order to reap those particular results. There is no way you can reap a harvest unless you plant a seed. You have to be a sower if you want to be a reaper. Remember: God is the One who gives the increase. But if you don't plant anything, God cannot increase you. So in order to reap good fruit, you have to plant good seeds.

The last part of this verse is just as important. It says, "…a time to pluck up what is planted." There are times when you need to uproot some things. Sometimes you need to take things away and consciously determine that those things aren't going to have a place in your life, especially when it comes to sin.

Growing up, I remember my father was a drunkard, a gambler, and a womanizer. So I started drinking and smoking cigarettes. If I had continued doing that, I probably would have become a drunkard and a smoker. But when I became a Christian, I determined that those things would no longer have a place in my life, so I uprooted those things.

You have to evaluate your seeds. If the seeds you are planting aren't bringing you good fruit, then pluck them out. Don't let them have a place in your life. We need to plant good seeds and uproot the bad ones. When we do that, God will increase us. That is when we will reap good fruit in our lives. So let's determine to plant some good seeds today.
