THE POWER TO CREATE WEALTH

Date: December 1

Category: Prosperity

Deuteronomy 8:18
"But you shall [earnestly] remember the Lord your God, for it is He Who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day."

Slobodan & Ljiljana KrstevskiThere is such a magnificent teaching in this passage. We can see in verses 12-13 that the Israelites were very financially prosperous. They had more than enough to eat. They built many houses. Their herds and flocks were multiplying, and along with that, their silver and gold were multiplying as well. Everything they had increased. But we can see in verse 14 that as the Israelites grew in their wealth, they began to forget the Lord. So in verse 17, God gave them a warning. He said, "And beware lest you say in your [mind and] heart, My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth."

It's so important that we don't allow our prosperity to lead us away from God. When everything in our lives is going well and when everything we have is prospering, it is very easy to forget about God. The moment we forget about God, we begin following other gods (verse 19). So that's why in verse 18, God says, "But you shall [earnestly] remember the Lord your God." In other words, you are to bring to your remembrance that "it is He Who gives you power to get wealth."

An important thing to notice here is that God does not give us wealth. He gives us the power to get wealth. That divine ability, anointing, and power to create wealth and prosperity comes from God. So whether you want to succeed in your relationships, in your business, in your health, etc, you need to have the power of God to do so. He is the one who gives us the ability for success. But once we have that power from God, then WE have to excercise that anointing and power and put that power and ability into action in order to create wealth in our lives.

In verse 17, we read that we are not to proclaim that our wealth came as a result of our power and the might of our hands. But it doesn't say that we shouldn't use our hands to achieve success. Our wealth comes from the power that God gives us. But once He gives us that power, we need to exercise it into action. In other words, we have to put our hands to work. God has given us everything we need to be successful. All the power of God is already within us because His Spirit is within us. All the anointing of God is already within us because Christ (the Anointed One) is within us. So there is nothing we can't do because we have the power of God. But we have to exercise that power by our actions.

In Joshua 1:8c we read, "For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success." We read here that we are, not God, the ones who will make our way prosperous. We are the ones, not God, who will deal wisely and have good success. No one else will do that for us. God will not do it for us. Those are things that we have to do for ourselves. So wealth comes through our own actions by the power that God gives us.

But what is the purpose of that wealth? Well in Deuteronomy 8:18b we read, "that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day." That is why God gives us the power to create wealth. The purpose of that wealth is not just for self-satisfaction. The purpose of that wealth is so God can establish His covenant. In other words, God has given us the power to create wealth so that we will share it with others for the propagation of the Gospel. There are many people who don't know the Lord and need to hear the Good News of salvation. Our support to an evangelistic ministry, such as Shining Light Ministries, enables that ministry to reach out to those lost people who don't know Jesus. That is the ultimate reason why God gives us the power to create wealth.

So we are not to say that we achieved all our prosperity from our own power and the might of our own hands. We are to acknowledge that God is the One who gave us the ability to create wealth and prosperity in the first place. But even though we don't credit our success to the power of our hands, we still have to use our hands in order to achieve success. The work of our hands empowered with the anointing of God is what will create wealth in our lives. So let us use the power of God to create wealth and let us share that wealth with others so that they will come to know the same Jesus we know.
