BLESSING OR CURSE: OUR CHOICE

"Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse – The blessing if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you this day; And the curse if you will not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you this day to go after other gods, which you have not known."
It says here that God has set before us today a blessing and a curse. There is an opportunity for both. Of course, God wants us to choose the blessing, but He can't force His blessing upon us. We have to choose to receive it. What you and I experience in life, whether it is a blessing or a curse, depends on the choices that we make.
Ultimately, it is God who is in control because He is the One who sets things into motion. He already established what we would get from the choices that we make. So God will give us the results of our decisions because that is His word. But the decision is ours to make and what we decide will determine whether we become blessed or cursed.
Some people are cursed in their relationships; they get divorced or they always fight. They never have harmony in their marriages. Some people are cursed in their finances; they're always in lack or in debt. Some people are cursed with their children. Their children disobey and rebel against them and the Word of God. All these curses that people experience are a result of some kind of decision that has been made.
When people choose not to spend time with their spouse, they curse their marriage. When people choose to hold back their tithes and offerings and squander their money, they curse their finances. When parents choose not to spend time with their children teaching and guiding them, then they bring about a curse with their children. Our choices are a determinative factor for what we experience in life.
So how can we choose blessing? Verse 27 says, "..if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you this day." That's how we reap God's blessing. When we choose to obey God's commandments, meaning we do what God tells us to do, then God is bound by His Word to bless us.
But it's important that we read the Word of God to know what it is that He commands us to do. Then we have to speak the Word of God, and then put those words into action by doing those commandments. When we read, speak, and do the Word of God, God who does not and cannot lie promises that He is going to bless us.
But remember, it all goes back to our own decisions. We are the ones who decide whether or not to read and obey God's Word. So we are the ones who decide whether we will be blessed or cursed. God orchestrates those results, but our choices will determine which results we receive. Let's choose to receive blessing today!
