YOUR WORK IS THE CENTRE STAGE
Date: December 7
"The Lord shall open to you His good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain of your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands; and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow."
The economy in Israel during this time was an agricultural economy. So the sun and the rain were the two key elements that were needed for the Israelites to succeed in their economy. The first part of this verse says, "The Lord shall open to you His good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain of your land in its season." In other words, God promised that He would open up heaven and allow the rain to fall upon their land in order that they would be successful in their crops.
But there is something important to notice here. Rain was not enough for the Israelites to succeed. There was more that was required. In the second part of this verse we read, "and to bless all the work of your hands." So even though God promised to do His part by sending the rain, the Israelites still needed to do their part, which was working the land. They had to apply themselves and employ their hands by working in the field. If they didn't do that, then regardless of how much rain God gave them, they would still reap back nothing. If nothing gets sown, then nothing gets reaped. So the Israelites had to do their part as well in order to be successful.
We read a similar passage in Deuteronomy 30:9a, "And the Lord your God will make you abundantly prosperous in every work of your hand." Again, we can see that God can only prosper the work of our hands. So if our hands don't work, then God cannot bless us. If we don't put in any labour, then we don't give God an opportunity to bless us. Work is something we have to do on our own. God will not work for us. He will not study for us. He will not save our money for us, and He's not going to invest our money for us either. Those are all things that we have to do. God has already given us the ability and divine anointing to do all those things, but now we have to employ that anointing by putting our hands to work. That's when God will bless us.
I know from experience that a good investment vehicle is real estate. But that requires a lot of work as well. First, I have to find a good rental property to buy. In order to do that, I have to consider the condition of the property and the location. Then I have to set a good price for that rental property, and advertise it in a way that will draw possible tenants. Soon after, people will begin calling. So I have to determine who would be a good tenant. In order to do that, I have to look at their credit history. Then finally, once I select a tenant, I have to set up a contract agreement with them for at least one year. All of those elements are required for me to be successful in real estate, and all of that takes time and work. God has already set the stage for me to succeed, but He won't do the work for me. I have to do my part before He can do His.
It's the same in every other kind of work. We need to do our part before God can do His part. So regardless of what kind of business you are in or where you are employed, remember that before God can bless you, you have to put forth an effort for Him to bless. You need to present to God some kind of labour in order for God to bless that labour with fruitful results.
Then in the last part of Deuteronomy 28:12 we read, "and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow." In other words, God will bless the work of your hands so greatly that you will have no need for borrowing money from anyone. Instead, you will be so prosperous that you become a lender to others. That's how much God wants to bless you. But He can only bless whatever labour you present Him with. That's why it's so important that you work. But not only that, it's also important that you choose a good field of work. Your work should provide you with sufficient money to give your tithes and offerings, pay all your bills, and put aside at least 20% plus, into a good investment vehicle for your future.
So the centre stage of your prosperity is your work. The preceding stage is God's blessing and the result of that prosperity is the ability to lend to others and not borrow. But remember: work is the key to success. So take prudent action based on the Word of God and the ability that God has given you, where you offer some kind of service or product to others. That prudent action will enable God to open heaven up to you and bless you with abundance. And that abundance will enable you to become a lender and never a borrower.
