THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE

"Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me."
This passage is found in the last discourse of Jesus (chapters 13-17), where He spends time talking to His disciples prior to being crucified. At the beginning of this chapter, Jesus tells us not to let our hearts be troubled, but to believe and trust in Him (verse 1). Then He says that there are many mansions in His Father's house, and He is going there to prepare a place for us and will return to bring us with Him (verse 2-3). Then He says that the place where He is going, we already know the way (verse 4). Then in verse 5, we read, "Thomas said to Him, Lord, we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?"
Then Jesus answers him and says, "I am the Way and the Truth and the Life." This statement that Jesus makes is a very powerful statement. Only He can say something like this because He is the Son of God. Jesus is saying that if we want to get to the Father, then we need Him. So our relationship with Jesus will determine our destiny. Then Jesus says, "No one comes to the Father except by (through) Me." Another powerful statement! Jesus is saying that by no religion, by no custom, by no other name will anyone come to the Father except by Him.
Many religions try to come to God through works. That's why in a lot of religions, there are customs and traditions that people are required to follow in order to be accepted into that religion. People think that if they are accepted into that religion then they are accepted by God. Some philosophers believe that good and moral conduct will bring them closer to God, such as good behaviour, good deeds, and peaceful lifestyles. But no religion, philosophy or good works will bring us into heaven. Jesus says that no one can come to the Father except through Him.
That's exactly what it says in Acts 4:12, "And there is salvation in and through no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by and in which we must be saved." It's interesting that when a disaster happens, people begin calling on the name of Jesus. When tragedy hits, people begin crying out to God. It's because the name of Jesus is the only name that can save us. No other name under heaven can give us eternal salvation but the name of Jesus.
Jesus is the Way. It's not just that He is showing us the way, but He is the Way. If you want to find the way to heaven, turn to Jesus. He says here, "I am the Way." When you accept Jesus Christ into your heart, He comes and communes with you. In Revelations 3:20 we read, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears and listens to and heeds My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will eat with him, and he [will eat] with Me." In other words, He'll have communion and fellowship with you if you will welcome Him into your heart. Then you will know the way to heaven because you will know Jesus.
Jesus is the Truth. There are people all around us who are seeking for truth. Yet, we have the truth residing within our hearts and His name is Jesus. John 8:32, "And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free." When you accept Jesus, you will be free from the power of sin, free from the guilt of sin, and free from the condemnation of sin.
Jesus is the Life. This life is the life of God. So everything that we need for life is found in Jesus because He is the Life. In John 10:10b we read, "I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows)." When you accept Christ into your heart, you now have the life of God within you, which is eternal life (life with abundance).
So access to the Father is only found in Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Way, meaning He is the roadmap to the Father. Jesus is the Truth, meaning He is the One who sets us free from our sins. And Jesus is the Life, meaning He is the Life-giver, the one who gives us eternal life. That's why it's so important to have Jesus in our hearts. We need the Lord Jesus Christ to be our personal Lord and our personal Savior. That means allowing Jesus to live His life in and through us. There is no other name under heaven that can save all humanity except the name of Jesus!
