HOW TO BE HEALTHY

"And their fruit shall be for food and their leaves for healing."
It says here, "Their fruit shall be for food and their leaves for healing." We can learn a lot about how to be healthy from this verse in the Bible. The healthiest foods that we can eat are fresh fruits and vegetables. The darker and greener the vegetables and the more ripe and stronger coloured fruits are, the better they are for your health. For example, red apples are one of the best fruits to eat to fight cancer. The skin of the apples has most of the anti-oxidants, which help fight cancer. There are other fruits and vegetables that are healthy for our bodies as well. That's why God says here that the fruit shall be for food.
But in our western diet, many of us have changed that. Many of us eat other things more than we eat fruits and vegetables. Or many of us cook those vegetables so much at such high temperatures that we actually destroy all the healthy enzymes of that healthy vegetable. So when it comes time to eat the vegetable, we're actually eating it dead. All the nutrients are gone. It's better to eat the vegetable at its raw state. The same is true with seeds. Sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of seeds are much better to eat while they're in their raw state than to eat them cooked. It's better not to cook them, bake them, or salt them. When we eat them at its natural state (in a balanced way), then those seeds provide some of the best nutrients to our bodies.
People in Mediterranean climates usually don't eat as much red meat as people here in the Western culture. Instead, they eat more fish, vegetables, olives, and other natural foods. Because of that, they are much healthier. There are fewer heart attacks and other health problems amongst those people. But when they come here and adapt to the diet of the westerners, then they start getting similar sicknesses to the people here.
If there is a sickness in your body, this verse says that the leaves are for healing. Many studies have been conducted to show that there are nutrients within some specific leaves that have a healing effect on our bodies. For example, there are some tealeaves, which help you with regularity and overall balanced health. There are other herbs that are healthy as well and bring about a healing effect to our bodies. Even the medical community has used herbs in medicines. Those healthy nutrients attack the virus within your body that's causing you to be sick. When that virus stops growing, then your body has the opportunity to recover on its own. That's why God says here that the leaves are for healing.
Also, if you are sick, a good form of medicine is to eat nothing at all. Fasting is a great medicine for sicknesses. One of the hardest jobs that our body has is to digest food. But when we fast, we are giving our body time to rest so that it can heal and recover from the sickness. That eliminates the poisons and toxins from our bodies. After that, then we can fill our bodies with healthy fresh fruits (fruits feed our system) and vegetables (vegetables strengthen our system) and healings leaves (healing leaves provide healing for our system). Making our own fresh fruits and vegetable juices is one of the wonderful ways how we can bless our body and provide health for our system. So get a juicer and start juicing!
Everything that the health industry has been talking about is right here in the Bible. Now all we need to do is take the Word of God and apply it to our lives. When we eat and drink the proper things, then we are going to be healthy. Along with a healthy diet, we also need to exercise, get enough rest, drink lots of water, reduce stress and have peace in our hearts, fast in order to detoxify our bodies, etc. Those are all elements that help us stay healthy. We know that God wants us to be healthy. In 3 John 1:2 we read, "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in every way and [that your body] may keep well, even as [I know] your soul keeps well and prospers." So today, let's apply this Word of God into our lives and let's make sure that everything we take into our bodies is nutritious and beneficial to our health.
