GOD’S WORD IS LIFE

"Your testimonies also are my delight and my counselors. My earthly life cleaves to the dust; revive and stimulate me according to Your word!"
The power of the Word of God is really emphasized in Psalm 119. This is the longest psalm of them all and actually it's the longest chapter in the entire Bible. This psalm has 176 verses, and the middle verse of this psalm has been said to be the middle verse of the entire Bible. The middle verse is verse 88, "According to Your steadfast love give life to me; then I will keep the testimony of Your mouth [hearing, receiving, loving, and obeying it]." This middle verse focuses on the Word of God and how God is One who gives us life and we as His children are to obey His Word. That's a very significant statement that we read here and it is similar to the verse we read earlier.
In Psalm 119:24 we read, "Your testimonies are my delight and my counselors." In other words, we are to rejoice and be glad in God's testimonies. God's testimonies are the things that God says. So His Word should be our delight and our counselor, meaning His Word should counsel us concerning every area of our lives.
Actually it's interesting to note that eighty percent of God's will for each one of us is clearly stated in the Bible. Many people are looking for the will of God but eighty percent of His will can be read plainly from His Word. If you find that you don't know what to do in a particular situation, go and read the Bible. God will show you what He wants you to do.
So what do we do for the other twenty percent then? Well we can find the other twenty percent by deduction because God's Word has laid out principles for us. For example, the Bible doesn't talk about pornography. But we can deduct from the Word of God that pornography is wrong because it means we are looking at someone else other than our spouse with lustful desires. So even though the Bible doesn't talk about pornography directly, we know from the principles in the Bible that we shouldn't be involved with it. The Word of God is our best counselor, the best form of direction for our lives.
Then we read in verse 25 of this psalm, "My earthly life cleaves to the dust; revive and stimulate me according to your word!" Stimulation by the Word of God is the best form of stimulation you can receive. To stimulate someone means to inspire or motivate him. The Word is our best motivation. God's Word will boost your energy, increase your strength, give you great wisdom, give you comfort, joy, peace, and anything else that you may need in this life.
So this is a very good seed to plant inside your heart. This is a very wise investment for your time. This is the best thing that you can meditate upon. When you are thinking about the Word of God, you are actually thinking about God. In John 1:1 we read, "In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself." So the Word of God is God Himself. It's Christ! Along with the Word stimulating or motivating us, that same Word also revives us. In other words, god's Word will bring life to you.
We read in John 6:63c, "The words (truths) that I have been speaking to you are spirit and life." God's Word is spirit and life. When we have His Word in our hearts, we will be full of His spirit and His life. We also read in John 6:69b, "You have the words (the message) of eternal life." So again, this is a confirmation that Christ, which is the Word, is what brings us to eternal life. That's why it's so important to have God's Word in our hearts. Through the Word is how we receive revival; it's how we receive life.
It's all very similar to the verse we read earlier that's located in the middle of this psalm and the middle of the Bible. Psalm 119:88 says, "According to Your steadfast love give life to me; then I will keep the testimony of Your mouth [hearing, receiving, loving, and obeying it]." God's Word brings us life when we obey it.
So if we delight in God's Word, then it means we will obey it. When we obey it, we will be in the will of God because that's what it means to be in God's will – to live in obedience to Him. But in order to obey God, we have to read His Word. The Word of God is our greatest counselor. It will lead us the right way, cause us to make wise decisions, cause us to be prosperous because of those decisions and actions, and most importantly, it will motivate us and give us life. That's how powerful the Word of God is. So today, let's take God's Word and plant it inside our hearts!
