DEPEND ON HIM FOR SUCCESS

"It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in princes."
This is a very significant teaching that I think all of us should remind ourselves of every day of our lives. As human beings, we all have a natural dependency. We all depend on something or someone. When a need arises, most of us have a tendency to go to other people for help. When we were children, we went to our parents. But as we grew older, that dependency changed. As adults, some people depend on their spouses or their friends. There's nothing wrong with depending on people for certain things, but if we are depending on people for success and happiness in life, then we need to re-examine ourselves.
A lot of us have a tendency to think that if this person or that person helps us or cuts us a break, then we will be successful in life. Sometimes young people think that if they marry the right person, then their lives will be perfect. Other people think that if someone gave them a million bucks or if they won the lottery, then they would be happy. But I'm here today to tell you that you don't need anyone to give you a break in life. You don't need to depend on someone else for happiness and success. All your successes come from yourself and from God.
God wants us to trust and rely upon Him. God wants us to recognize Him as our first and only source. As it says here in these verses, "It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in princes." Putting our confidence in princes really just means putting our confidence in people we admire and look up to. According to this passage, we shouldn't do that. It's better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than in anyone else. We should always cry out to Him for all our needs.
In Mark 11:24 we read, "For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it]." In other words, when you come before God in prayer, you have to believe that you will receive what you have asked for. Believe that you already have it.
For example, after you've prayed that you will be debt-free, now believe that it's already been done. Confess to yourself, "My debt is paid off in Jesus name!" When you speak that with confidence, you will believe it in your heart. When that happens, your faith will be activated to do what you need to do to become debt-free. In this case, you will determine not to increase your debt, but to work towards decreasing and eliminating it. And God will help you! The same thing applies if you want healing in your body. In Isaiah 53:5 we read, "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole." That's the Word of God that you need to pray. Once you pray it, now you have to believe that you're already healed. As you believe that, your faith will be activated to do whatever it takes to be healthy again, whether it is fasting, eating better, exercising, etc. And God will heal you!
So your successes depend on God and your own actions. That's why you should take refuge and trust in Him and not any man. Throughout your life, you will have all different kinds of people saying all different kinds of things to you. Some of those comments can be positive, but some are negative. That's why you should always rely upon God and what He says in His Word. His Word is true and will come to pass no matter what.
There are people who trust in other people. As I said earlier, we all have a natural tendency to depend on something. But it says here in this psalm that it is better to trust in the Lord than it is to trust in any man because our success is determined by God and by our own actions. So today, let's put our trust in God and not people, and let's see what God will do in and through us today!
