HEALING AND DELIVERANCE

"He sends forth His word and heals them and rescues them from the pit and destruction."
This verse shows that God is always there with us through our life situations, no matter what the need is. In verse 17 we read, "Some are fools [made ill] because of the way of their transgressions and are afflicted because of their iniquities." Some people often become sick because of their sins. And in verse 18 we read, "They loathe every kind of good, and they draw near to the gates of death." They often become so ill and so troubled that they feel like they are drawing near to the end.
We all go through times when we feel like that. But in the midst of our troubles, we need to cry out to the Lord, and God will deliver us out of our distresses. But how will God deliver us? Well let's read verse 20 where it says, "He sends forth His word and heals them and rescues them from the pit and destruction." There is no healing without the Word of God, and there is no deliverance without the Word of God. If you are troubled by something and nothing can help you, then you know you have to go to the Word of God.
When you are troubled, don't confess your situation and don't confess what other people are saying about your situation. Confess the Word of God! When God sends His Word, He will bring about healing. Whatever you trouble is, whether it is sickness, poverty, broken relationship, or other difficulties in your life, that Word that God speaks will become like a rhema word to you – a word that is directly spoken to your spirit for your personal situation.
A rhema word to you is not a word that has been spoken to someone else. A rhema word is a Word of God that has been specifically spoken to you. That's when your faith will be triggered into action. That's when healing and deliverance will come. The moment you start believing that God will heal you personally and not just the people around you is the moment you will receive your healing.
Now you could be healed instantaneously or by a process. But God will heal you the moment that His Word becomes alive in your spirit. But for that healing to happen, the Word of God needs to be planted in our hearts. We have to believe what God says and confess what God says. We read in Mark 11:24, "For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it]."
You cannot receive what you've asked for if you don't believe that you will receive it. You need to have faith before you can receive it. God is a God who does not lie. He cannot lie. So He will do what He says He will do. So if He says that He will send forth His Word and heal you and rescue you from your troubles, then that's exactly what He's going to do. Faith in God's Word and the confession of the truth in His Word is the key to receiving your healing.
One time I went with a pastor to a man's house to counsel him. He was about 69 years old. Both he and his wife were Jewish believers. But he was very worried about dying. He was so worried that he became fearful of death. Whenever he would lie down to sleep, fearful thoughts would come into his mind. Those fears caused his blood pressure to shoot up so high that an ambulance had to be called to his house a few times. This man lived in fear because he was afraid to die.
In 1 John 4:18 we read, "There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror!" When you have perfect love, then that love will cast out any fears that you may have. So I asked this man, "Do you walk in love? Is there anyone in your life that you don't love?" He thought for a moment and said, "No, I love everybody." I continued talking to him and said, "Did that fear of death come because you read the Word and God's Word said that you were going to die?" He answered, "No, of course not." So then I said, "If your fear didn't come from God, then it came from Satan, the father of lies."
As we continued talking, it wasn't long before he confessed that he didn't like his son-in-law. So I counseled him and encouraged him to forgive his son-in-law and restore that relationship in Jesus name. I led him in a prayer of confession and in that prayer he forgave his son-in-law and asked God to remove the fear in his heart. After that, this man became joyful and happy. There was a total change in his demeanor.
The reason why he became so happy was because God had delivered him from that fear, which was caused by a lack of love in his life. We read about this change of demeanor in the next two verses in this psalm. Verse 21 says, "Oh, that men would praise [and confess to] the Lord for His goodness and loving-kindness and His wonderful works to the children of men!" So the Lord's goodness and loving-kindness caused this man to praise the Lord. Then in verse 22 we read, "And let them sacrifice the sacrifice of thanksgiving and rehearse His deeds with shouts of joy and singing!" Once this man was delivered from his fear, I saw a change in his heart and his faith. He became joyful in the Lord and praised God!
So God's Word is what will bring healing and deliverance to us during our time of need. Regardless of what the sickness is and regardless of what the situation is, the Word of God that God sends forth will bring healing if we reach out by faith and accept it. Faith in God's Word and the confession of His Word are the key elements to receiving God's healing and deliverance. So today, let's carry the Word of God everywhere we go!
