2 Chronicles 20:21-22
"When he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers to sing to the Lord and praise Him in their holy [priestly] garments as they went out before the army, saying, Give thanks to the Lord, for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever! And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir who had come against Judah, and they were [self-] slaughtered."
These verses are very instructive. They teach us how to handle some of the difficult life situations we may encounter. Here, we read about a large army that came against Judah. It was so much larger than Judah's army that Judah had reason to be afraid. They didn't have the same kind of manpower. They didn't have the same kind of army that these other nations had. In a situation like this, it was simple for Judah to become fearful. If we go back and read verse 12b, it says, "For we have no might to stand against this great company that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon You." They were referring to God here; their eyes were upon God. So whenever you're caught in a difficult situation and you don't know what to do, don't get scared. Just look unto Jesus and ask Him for help.
That's what Judah did. Judah called upon the Lord for His help. So God called a prophet to speak to Judah. In verse 17 the prophet says, "You shall not need to fight in this battle; take your positions, stand still, and see the deliverance of the Lord [Who is] with you… Fear not nor be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you." God gave Judah His reassurance that He was going to see them through this situation. If God did this for Judah, then He will do the same thing for you as well. God is going to be with you through every situation you face in life.
In verse 20b King Jehoshaphat says to Judah, "Believe in the Lord your God and you shall be established; believe and remain steadfast to His prophets and you shall prosper." So even though your situation or even other people may discourage you, God says here to take courage. If you are ever fearful and you don't know what to do about a situation, don't focus on the fear. Instead, focus on God and you will gain victory.
Then Jehoshaphat began consulting with the people and he "appointed singers to sing to the Lord and praise Him in their holy [priestly] garments… saying, Give thanks to the Lord, for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever!" [verse 21]. In the time of trouble, they were praising and thanking God. An amazing thing happened when they did that. When they turned their attention towards God by praising and thanking Him, they no longer saw the enemy. They saw God, and God came through for them. Verse 22 says, "And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir who had come against Judah, and they were [self-] slaughtered." So the enemy lost.
It's amazing how God is able to help you through any and every troubled situation when you focus on Him and when you praise and thank Him. Regardless of what challenges you face or what problems arise, choose not to focus on those situations. Instead, focus on Jesus because He is there to help you. When you relate to Him by faith and you open your mouth to praise and thank Him, He will make you victorious. So fear not and have faith. Trust in Him and praise Him, and you will experience the victory of God in whatever challenges you face today.
