MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE

"But He replied, It has been written, Man shall not live and be upheld and sustained by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God."
This is the response that Jesus gave to the devil when the devil tried to tempt Him in the wilderness. At the time, Jesus was fasting for forty days and forty nights. It says in verse 3, "And the tempter came and said to Him, If You are God's Son, command these stones to be made [loaves of] bread." At the time, Jesus was obviously hungry for natural bread. He could have turned those stones into bread if He wanted to. You may ask, ‘Well, why didn't He do it then?' But pay special attention to Jesus' response to the devil. He says, "Man shall not live and be upheld and sustained by bread alone." In other words, it's not enough to just satisfy your physical needs. We all have spiritual needs that need to be satisfied as well.
Instead of going to the Word of God to fulfill their spiritual needs, people sometimes start feeding their bodies with food. They often gain weight or become sick because of it. Sometimes people get hungry spiritually, but instead of reading the Word of God, they watch movies or television shows. But Jesus says here that man does not live on bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.
So everything from the Word of God is important. You need every single word to sustain your life. God tells us to give Him the first tenth of every increase, meaning 10% of what we have. But if you just give 3% of your increase, then you are disobeying God. That disobedience will not sustain your life. God tells us that we have to honor our father and mother. But if you lie to them or dishonor them in any way, then you are disobeying God, and your life cannot be sustained. So we have to obey all of God's Word. When we do so, then our lives will be sustained. God's thoughts are expressed in His Word. So you have to read the Word of God to know the thoughts of God.
We are sustained by every word that comes from the mouth of God. It's not just from the mouth of a preacher because sometimes a preacher could be preaching wrong. You have to check what the preacher is saying, and see if his messages line up with the Word of God. It is every word from the mouth of God that sustains us. It doesn't say here that we shouldn't be eating bread. Yes, we need to eat bread. Yes, we need to feed our physical bodies. But it says that we cannot live on bread alone. You have to consciously decide to feed yourself with the Word of God so you don't starve spiritually and die spiritually. That kind of death is slow, and you may not even notice it. That's why it's so important to always satisfy your heart with God and His Word. Nothing else can really satisfy and sustain your life but the Word of God.
