1 Chronicles 23:30
"They are also to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at evening."
1 Chronicles 25:7
"So the number of them [who led the remainder of the 4,000], with their kinsmen who were specially trained in songs for the Lord, all who were talented singers was 288."
During the Old Testament times, the king would appoint someone to be the leader of worship, similar to how we have worship leaders in churches today. It says in 1 Chronicles 25:7 that these people "were specially trained in songs for the Lord." What does it mean to be specially trained for something? Does it mean that these people just knew how to sing or play an instrument without practice? No, of course not! They had to practice. This verse also says that these people "were talented singers." When we play an instrument or sing unto the Lord, not only is it a blessing to God, but also to those who listen to us.
Now let's look at 1 Chronicles 23:30. It says, "They are also to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at evening." So when your morning starts, you begin it by praising and thanking God. It says that we are to do that in the morning and in the evening. There is greater power in thanking God than there is in complaining to God. This verse is actually written in a command form. God is commanding us to thank Him regardless of what circumstances may be around us.
Think back to King Jehosephat. He wanted to face an army that was much stronger than his own. When he realized that he couldn't do it, he just praised and thanked God for God's help, God's assistance, and their victory. He shifted his focus to God. Thanking God helps you do that. As soon as you shift your focus from your situation to God, He will bring you victory. So this command is well pleasing to God.
It says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, "Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Christ Jesus [the Revealer and Mediator of that will]." Notice that it doesn't say, "Thank God FOR everything." It says that we are to thank God IN everything, trusting that He is going to help us overcome our situation. So God wants us to be thankful in every situation and stay thankful throughout the day, from morning to evening. There are going to be some mornings when you're not going to feel great. But thank Him anyway; praise Him anyway. That is the road to victory. God installed that. So begin and end your day with the Lord. Focus on Him, and be thankful in any and every situation that you are in. It is through your praise that your victory will come.
