1 Samuel 10:6-7
"Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you mightily, and you will show yourself to be a prophet with them; and you will be turned into another man. When these signs meet you, do whatever you find to be done, for God is with you."
In this passage, Samuel is speaking to Saul, the man who is to become the first king of Israel. For Saul to have a special role in the nation of Israel, he needed to have a special anointing. Samuel says here, "Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you mightily…" When the Holy Spirit would come upon Saul, the Bible says that he "will be turned into another man."
There is something that the Bible calls the fullness of the Holy Spirit, also called the baptism of the Holy Spirit. When that happened in my life, my life changed for the better. In the early 90's I was baptized in the Holy Spirit. From that time onwards, my life and my ministry changed forever. I read the Bible with a new freshness. My prayer life changed with the new language of heaven. My entire outlook on life wasn't physical and carnal anymore; I began to see things in spiritual perspective.
We become different when the Spirit of God takes control of our lives. When we become Christians, we become different people – new creatures in Christ Jesus. The Holy Spirit comes and resides within us and we obtain forgiveness for sins and a new direction for life. When the Holy Spirit baptizes you, that's when you experience God's empowerment. There is a great difference between living in your natural strength and living in the power of the Holy Spirit.
When I first began my ministry, I thought I could do it all by myself. I thought I had the skill, the experience, and the knowledge I needed to run a ministry. But suddenly, I realized that my own strength wasn't accomplishing anything. All of my theology degrees, all of my past ministry experiences, all of my own knowledge was not good enough. If I wanted a ministry, God had to do it through me. I had to get on my knees and ask God for His help. When I did, things started turning around for the better. It was because I humbled myself and sought the Lord for His help. When I did that, God empowered me with His Holy Spirit.
In verse 7a it says, "When these signs meet you, do whatever you find to be done...." Samuel didn't say, "Wait for God to start doing what needs to be done." He said, "You do what you think should be doing." Now that you're a new person and now that you're filled with the power of God, you have to decide what you want to do for the Lord. What you do with your life and what you do for the Lord is really your decision. But God will give you the power that you need to do what you want to do because as it says in verse 7b, "..for God is with you." God will be with you in everything that you do because His Holy Spirit is living inside of you.
If you look at society and people, you'll see that we all do what we want anyway. Our deeds reflect what's in our hearts. But because you are a new creature in Christ Jesus, what you want to do will be what God wants done. And because you have the Holy Spirit inside of you, you have the power of God with you in everything that you do.
So don't wait for tomorrow, the next day, or the next week. Today is the day to do what you want to do for God. That's why He gave you the Holy Spirit. That's why He empowered you with His power. He did it so you could do and accomplish great things for God.
