New Kosovo Refugees in Need

Smiling faces fill the room as the children wait for mom to finish baking the bread

In March of this year, there were orchestrated attacks against the Serbian minority in Kosovo. Over 560 homes were burned down and over 200 homes were severely damaged. Thirty-five churches were ruined and 4,000 new refugees were added to the hundreds of thousands of existing refugees.

These new refugees are now in Serbia where the unemployment rate of over 50%, and the cost of living is as high as it is in North America. They don’t have any income, and they often sleep on tractor wagons with plastic covers over them. Many have built shack homes out of cardboard paper or metal sheets found in garbage dumps.

It’s really a privilege that we are able to provide hope to some of them. This year, we were able to provide 889 refugee families with food and clothing. We also shared the Gospel with them and almost a hundred refugees came to know the Lord.

In addition to that, we also distributed 736 packages for orphaned and refugee children. We were also able to help 36 destitute widows and 27 pregnant women with newborn baby packages. But none of this would have been possible without your prayers and support. So we praise God for your generosity.

In Jeremiah 29:11, God says, “But I will preserve the orphans who remain among you. Your widows, too, will be able to depend on Me for help.” It is clear from this text that God is in the business of preserving orphans and helping widows. If God is doing so, then we, as His followers, should be doing the same.

It says in James 1:27a, “Pure and lasting religion in the sight of God our Father means that we must care for orphans and widows in their troubles.” Faith is expressed through actions. According to Galatians 5:6, what counts in Christ Jesus is “faith activated and energized and expressed in working through acts of love.” Faith and acts of love are like the feet we have. We can’t walk without one or without the other.

Matthew 5:16 says, “In the same way, let your light shine before man, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

We invite you to partner in this work of God with your best gift. It costs $70 to provide a package of food for a refugee family and $30 for an orphan child. As you can see, there are still many more refugees that we have yet to reach. Please pray that God will lead you as to how you should partner with us today.
