Danica and Milica

Both Danica and Milica have only finished grade four. Neither of them have the opportunity to go back to school because their parents don’t have the funds to send them to school. So instead, they try to help their parents as much as they can. This is the same story among other families in that area. People are living in utter poverty there. Little children, as soon as they can, start working to help their families survive, so most of them don’t go to school either.

Packages for Pregnant Women

We also visited new mothers and mothers-to-be. We distributed packages that included baby powder, baby shampoo, baby oil, baby bottles, soap, receiving blankets, hand-made blankets and quilts, and a set of new clothes for a new baby - undershirt, top, pants, little hat and socks. One such mother is Milena. Milena has three little children to whom we gave packages with personal hygiene and school supplies. Milena had just delivered a little baby that was just four months old. As we gave her the package for the new baby she started to share that she has tuberculosis (TB) and was very ill. I just wanted to get to know her. She told us that there was no work, and because she just had a baby and has TB, she sells flowers in the evenings. She cannot do that all the time because most of the time she is too weak. As we were leaving she asked in a begging and crying voice, "Do you have a baby bottle?" as she could not afford to buy one.

Children, Darwin Did Not Know the Truth

Communism ruled in the former Yugoslavia for most of the last century. In some of those countries communism broke up faster than in others. Communism and Darwinist teaching were prevalent in the public school system and in society. Slobodan remembers as he was growing up there for the first fifteen years of his life he never heard the name of Jesus even being mentioned. At the time there was no Christmas or Easter celebrations. Ljiljana also remembers as she grew up there one of her school teachers taught them that God does not exist and a belief in God is for old, backwards people. To explain our beginnings they taught us evolution, often telling us that our ancestors were monkeys. The teacher also told Slobodan that creation stories were just fables. Even after communism fell the same type of teaching continues in the public school system.
